tried to reach chaos several times by mail to get informations and access to aura, but didn´t get any response. does anybody know - vlado, tedi…please?
matthias
not much is happening on the aura front.
The beta testers were promised a build a while ago now and we have heard nothing since.
do you know who do i have to ask for joining the beta? would love to have a nice fire-and-smoke-solution. do you know about another nice fire-tool?
im not sure who to ask sorry.
Afterburn by sitni sati is a good one
I was in the same need.. and wanted to use the beta for some real cluseups of fire..
never got a response..
ended up using Maya Fuids Engine.. very , very powerful tool , got the job done..
afterburn makes nice explotions, clouds , smoke, etc… but flames.. are a little different..
take a look at maya
Esteban
yes, thats the answer i feared - i don´t need no explosions, plasmabombs or hypergateflashes but “just” realistic torches and fireplaces, i dont want to learn maja!!!

So,
Am I reading this right??? Let me just get this straight first… are we saying that VRAY is not capable of making fire??? ANDDDD that we need to use other programs to get a fire effect???
Thanks in advance
Leo
is this a surprise? :o
I would think so wouldn’t you?
VRAY was/is the best of the best of the best right??? and are we saying that it’s NOT capable of rendering realistic flames/fire??? It just doesnt seem to register…
I wonder if anyone from VRAY would be able to answer this question.
it does!
can u reproduce it in MAX??
hum… :?
Leo,
What are you on about.
VRAY is a RENDERER… keep that in mind. Its not a physics engine like reactor, it doesnt create particles, and it most certainly doesnt create flame!!
For those things you need a Physics app like Reactor, a Character animation program like Character studio, a flame plugin such as Aura or afterburn or pheonix, and for particles you would need Particle Flow or thinking particles..etc..etc…
What you are saying is similar to me saying “Ferraris are the best cars in the world but why the hell cant they make me a Latte”
How ever Vray can render flames made by Aura for instance, and a few of the other programs but it certainly cant make them. In the same way i can drink my Latte while driving my Ferrari but it sure cant make one.
Hope that clears things up for you. As it seems that you dont even know what Vray is
dude, are you alright?
I think so :?
Funny Stuff
That is the funniest thing I have heard in awhile - a Ferrari making a lathe - I want to use that on something somehow - it seems very Italian, except it wouldn’t make the lathe after 12 then you would have to have an expresso !!!
By the way did you see the Ferrari in Malibu which was ripped in two by the force of the crash, completely in 2. I think that guy would have been better off drinking a lathe then the shit he must have been on
Since we are going off topic that is ![]()
lol yeah.. im still chuckling after i read it again. I can imagine some jumped up business man istting in his ferrari thinking where the Double skim decaf latte with a twist of lemon button is. hehehe
Yeah saw that accident a month or so ago on some website… just amazing
hmmmm
damn thats funny. your a punk.. but thats bloody hilarious
DaForce:
This forum has changed quite a bit since my last visit. Very dissapointing.
It seems like no one is actually reading the question I asked. I think you my dear friend need to chill a bit and go smoke something or even better find a punching bag somewhere else.
Before you start with the Ferraris and Lattes and all the fun stuff I think you should read what the question was.
To find out the answer I had 2 options
1- Do my own research
2- Come to my favorate forum - chaosgroup and learn a bit more and see what and how I would render a simple flame.
AND all I got was CARS and COFFEE…
Ineteresting how things change in 2 years… very dissapointing.
Now let me ask again and see if I get a decent answer.
“I am trying to render a flame. Any idea on how or where I can start? Does VRAY offer better flames than the ones in 3DSMAX?”
“… are we saying that VRAY is not capable of making fire???”
I hope THIS TIME I get something worthwhile that would help me create the correct flame.. not the flame that would burn this forum to ashes…
Stay safe and peace forever…
Leo
I read your question.
And i did answer your question, i thought. Also you are not really being clear enough in your question.
Vray “cannot” make flame/fire. Its a renderer not a flame simulation plugin such as aura or pheonix.
Vray “can” render flames/fire made using other plugins such as mention above, auro, pheonx or afterburn.
If want you want to know is how to make a decent looking flame that can be rendered properly using Vray then use one of the plugins mentioned above, or you could use a simple frame sequence and opacity.
Or even a mesh based option with an animated noise to simulate flame (i
have seen it done for muzzle flashes on guns)
So there are many options.. all of which could be rendered with vray, scanline.. whatever. Vray has no specific flame “ability”
Hopefully that will answer your questions ![]()
As people said Vray and the scanline are just renderers and neither offer the ability to render flames as such. What you are talking about is the atmospheric effects in 3dsmax which can be rendered in the sc, mental ray, vray, brazil etc since they’re a standard part of 3dsmax. As you’ve noticed though, they look shit. In terms of your other options there are a few:
1. Afterburn which is another atmospheric effect but has way more control than the 3dsmax version - it does really nice smoke, fire, explosions etc and uses the standard max particle systems for its movement. Quite an old plugin but still good.
2. Phonenix which is good for doing small fires such as lighters, candles, fire places etc.
3. Aura which is probably the most intersting of the lot but in beta - the main good thing about it is that it does realistic smoke and fire movement which afterburn and phoenix don’t do. It’s the same type of movement that you get in maya fluids or real flow. The downside of it is since you are doing a simulation it can take quite a while to calculate. The render times may be slow also.
4. Face mapped particles. you can use facing particles in 3dsmax mapped with a little picture of a flame to make fire effects like in this tutorial - http://www.3d-palace.com/xenomorphic/education/doc\_dragon.htm . If you have decent flame footage you may be able to get nice results with this method - it’s how they did the balrog in lord of the rings.
5. Live action footage. Probably the most realistic since it is real - If you can shoot footage of fire it’s really easy to composite into a 3d render. There’s also a lot of companies like artbeats that sell stock footage of fire smoke and explosions for this task.
And i’ve just noticed that da force has said pretty much the same thing. Now I’ve gone and wasted all that time typing >![]()
