Option for less denoising elements in frame buffer.

I know all the elements are necessary for the denoising process, but would be great if there was an option in the denoiser settings to just have the effects result pass and the standard rgb pass be available in the frame buffer.

So basically just the denoised image and the non denoised image… and not the 500 other passes that nobody ever uses.

At the moment when I save a 5k exr it’s usually up around 800mb!

That’d be Three clicks from the VFB, though, would it not (Save RGB Layer, switch to effect result, save Layer.)?
The problem with adding the option is that for someone saving the non-denoised RGB would equally be a waste, while others may want some other channels saved, for post use, based on personal needs (say, an alpha, a depth or pPos pass, a defocus amount, or a noise level).
It’s quite impractical to code for specific needs, while it’s quite easy to script what suits you (namely, a button which saves out the two layers you wish.).
I could make you the button myself, if you wanted it.

Hi Lele, its more of a problem when we autosave exr’s. So if I were rendering out an animation and after each frame is finished it saves the frame… with all of those denoising elements. We also use deadline and render out a bunch of still frames each night. And so when max/deadline autosaves each frame after its finished we end up with all the denoising elements (and huge exr files).

I know for animations its best to use the standalone denoiser which I assume needs all of those elements, but for still images which are autosaved it would be great.

Ah, then, if you use deadline it should be trivial to initiate a post-render job to do image conversion/channel stripping, again as you see fit for your specific needs (you’d need fusion/nuke/natron).

Ok, will see what can be done about it.

Vlado

overruled! ^^

Haha! Thanks Vlado!

Yeah a simple tick box like the psd manager option of ‘include render elements generated by V-ray Denoiser’ would be great.

Think of all the Hard drives around the world you would be saving!

I was definitely being pernicious, there. ah, the sake of argument!
