In my view in sketchup, i have an elevation in parallel projection. However, when i render, it is changed to perspective view and i don’t get a straight on shot. How can i get the exact view i see in sketchup?
Re: parallel projection view changed to perspective view?
The most likely thing is that you’re using the physical camera which does not support parallel projections. Other than that I’m not too sure what could be causing the issue. There was a bug with perspective mode a few builds ago, but I believe that has been resolved in some of the more recent builds.
Re: parallel projection view changed to perspective view?
im having the same problem atm
i cant seem to set the lighting up for paralell projection
all i get is a white scene ![]()
any advice would be greatly apreciated ![]()
Re: parallel projection view changed to perspective view?
as dalomar saied …
you use Physical cam … and you will receive “perspective” view --- try use focal lenght about 200 and you will find it usefull with combination with PhotoShop .
or
you use “normal” camera and then you will have big problem to adjust Sun intensity
conclusion … it is realy hard to set it up correctly …
something like paralel projestion for phisical camery could be helpfull
;D
Re: parallel projection view changed to perspective view?
If you use the physical camera method of using a very long focal length (SU goes to a max of 2063mm which is very close to parallel) don’t forget to decrease the shutter speed (think between 1/5000 to 1/10000) otherwise you’ll get extremely overexposed renders.
Re: parallel projection view changed to perspective view?
yes you can do it!!! no twiking with phisical camera. If you use sketchup, just grab the zoom tool and tipe 0 (zero) and press enter. Now you have a parallel projection “rendable”!
;D
Re: parallel projection view changed to perspective view?
When I do that, if I type Z again the Focal length is 10mm. I can’t get it to 0. And there’s still perspective.
Re: parallel projection view changed to perspective view?
When you select Zoom or Field of View under tools menu you should be able to enter a “field of view” angle with is in Degrees (normal human eye seeing about 40 degrees).
0 degrees means no perspective = parallel view.
Re: parallel projection view changed to perspective view?
Normally I see degrees mentions when I aactivate the zoom tool. but when I tried last it said mm. I tried with a new model now and I said degrees. But it returns to 1 degrees.

It can’t be perspective view if the field of view is 0, so 1 is the closest as it can get to parallel while you’re in perspective mode.
Re: parallel projection view changed to perspective view?
Just realised that if the Zoom says focal length in mm, then I just need to enter “30degree” and it’ll returns to degrees.
Re: parallel projection view changed to perspective view?
Yep, if you add the suffix “mm” or “deg” to a figure in the VCB/Measurements box it’ll switch between formats.
andeciuala,
0 (zero) degrees FOV is actually unachievable in SU as it’s exactly the same as trying to enter an infinite focal length in millimetres as I suggested before- SU is limited to a focal length of 2063mm which is an equivalent of 1.2° FOV. It’s very very close to parallel projection, but isn’t quite there.
