Perhaps this is the way it is suppose to work…LOL…But I never realized it.
If I render out frames of an animation and use IR and QMC. at -3,-3. The frames take 10 minutes. I precalced an IR map at -3,-1 at every 50 frames and used it and the frames are taking 22 minutes. Is that correct? I mean it makes sense..More detail and such…Thanx
Nope, shouldn’t be that way.
How big is the imap in megs?
about 50 megs… Not that bad…I think…Ok…let me go through my process.
I render the whole thing and DO NOT precalc…Frames take 10-12 min. I precalc using better settings..I only change the -3,-1 and render 900 frames…Every 50 frames that is…Save. I am using multiframe incremental. then it chooses from file and I pick the file and bam…20 minutes.
If rendering with Precalced IrrMaps takes longer that usually means that vray is missing data in the irrmap and has to recalc it. For example if it would be precalced with the wrong camera or something similar (Objects hidden that are in the final rendering etc).
In that case VRay has to bruteforce these areas wich takes quite long. At least if i recall that right. Vlado ?
Kind Regards,
Thorsten
that makes sense…cause I had to stop the rendering at frame 407 and I guess I moved the camera a little cause I rendered out 70 more frames and when I stiched them together I had a little JUMP. Oops…I got my original camera back and I am now recalcing the map. Does that sound like the problem.?
Ok…I took ONE frame rendered out an IR map at -3,-1..Frame 407..Saved the Ir map and used it to render the same frame. The Ir map took 2:45 to render at 720*486 and the image with a precalc took…well it is STILL rendering and at 15 min and only a 1/4 way complete. If I render this all together and dont precalc it takes 10:45
Take a look at this thread where I was having a similar problem. Yours may be related:

In my situation it was the options for glossy rays causing the problem. They needed to be recomputed when working from the saved irrmaps, which is what made the precalced solution take so much longer.
So do I have to check EVERY MATERIAL and change it. Geez…
there are scripts out there that will automate that.
Cool..I figured as much…Any ideas on where to look? Thanx guys…
Ah HA… Lele has a vray material control thingy…would that work…NM…trying now…wait… it just turns the option to nothing…Does that matter.
Do I need to precalc the Ir map again? or can I use my old one that I had done?
Ok…Ran the script…and hit SCENE materials so it would change them all… Reran a precalc on a single frame and nothing…Same thing…Very frustrating…
We are talking about the Treat glossy rays as GI rays correct. The script sets it to a blank…Should it be NEVER? Can I change it to set it to never in the script… Again…thanx for your help…
