Proposed changes to V-Ray Light Lister (with example)

I photoshoped an image illustrating two proposed changes to the vray light lister.

1. Taking queues from After Effects. A temporary light isolator ( on only selected lights )
2. More space for vray light name.
3. Even better if we could scale the vray light window to our sizable liking. Often, I only need to see the light name and on/off button.

Scenario / explanation.
There are situtations where i have 20 lights & only using 6 of them.. but want to test each one of the six ( 1/6 ) individually to check how its illuminating the scene. Particulalry in product studio shots. And I always forget which of the 6/20 I was using. I don’t want to make selection sets but rather a quick preview of what 1 (isolated) light is doing. If any of use use After Effects, you’ll know what I mean.

This would be particularly helpful in vray RT, for quick light checks, shadow casting, etc.

Would like to hear your opinions.

And as I mentioned in another thread.

4. The ability to SHIFT SELECT multiple light via the light lister. ( Shift + ticking the rectangular boxes on the very left )

Interesting, but Did you tried to place them into layers and uncheck “hidden lights” from the global switches rollout?, just asking because i use diferent lights positions and power per camera.

Hiding lights doesn’t affect Vray RT. Hidden or not, vray RT will still use them. I could be wrong though. Regardless, I don’t want to have to hide lights as its a bit of a pain. A tick box would be much more efficient

Hm, even if you turn off the “Render hidden lights” option in the production renderer settings?

Best regards,
Vlado

1. Taking queues from After Effects. A temporary light isolator ( on only selected lights )

So essentially you want a separate “On” option for V-Ray RT, is that correct?

Vlado

Hey Vlado, yeah for both VRAY-RT and Production Render. It’s like a temporary ON for selected light(s). Particularly useful for VRAY-RT.

I know you can hide lights and make selection sets but it’s a little more time consuming. I think, this would be a less “intrusive” option.

And please please please make the v-ray light-lister “scalable”. I’m thinking of getting a third screen just to facilitate all the little windows. If I could scale it to show the very left options that would already save lots of space.

Thanks guys.
