Is there a reason why the sun disk within the sky map is not visible if you use vraysky map inside a dome light but visible if you use the skymap inside the environmentslot? Or maybe even possible bug? Vray 3.3 Max2016 (hosek sky model)

Is there some specific reason why you are using it inside a Dome ?
Actually I thought this was preferred over using the skymap inside the environment slot. But in terms of personal reasons I like to take advantage of the domelight features e.g messing with diffuse/reflectivity etc.

It might be useful if you use Irradiance map as primary GI, and if you want to switch between VRaySky & HDRI, because HDRI is better used in direct lightning in this case, and it makes the “switch” easier.
But I’ve always wondered if there is a drawback (rendertime, not optimal, etc.) of using a VRaySky as a map within a VrayLight. Is thare apart from this “bug” ?
id imagine (going back to your original question) that it would be problematic to include the sun disk in the domelight, as it would cast illumination as part of the domelight, which would give you “double shadows” since you already have sunlight coming from the actual sun light. i assume when the vraysky is used in the environment slot this is somehow avoided.
having said that, maybe the same trick could be used in the domelight.

Indeed, when I put a VraySky in a dome I have to keep my Sun active in the scene, because otherwise there would be no direct sunlight. But if the (really bright) sun is somehow part in the VraySky, it would work without the sun object on.
A “parametric” sun & sky (that would behave like a classic HDRI) would be nice to have, but it’s a completely different object than what we have at the moment. And you still need an interface to draw the sun vector.
