Rendering Animation, Saving time increases with every frame...

Hello,
I liked to render an animation sequence overnight and was surprised this morning - against my math when it was still rendering…
I found out that the saving time increases dramatically after a few frames, as the render Time is about 2-3 minutes without Motion blur ;-)

In the morning I restarted the rendering and it begun again with short time and increased again…

The scene is very monotone, so no big changes

Do you have an idea, why this is happening?
Thanks..

I believe I had the same issue last time - scene in frame 0 was 11min, the 100th was 13 minutes. A very slow camera pan, which should not change that much.

Can you make more tests?

Hello, this is not the first time I’ve seen it. It is more significant with bigger files, with many polygons, but not higher than the ram at rendering.
I will keep an eye on this and as soon as I have a chance, I will test more and tell here…

@CG: Did you get any similar support requests or do do you have an idea why this is happening, as this can cost precious time, when rendering longer animations…

Hello,

Could you try rendering 2 different single frames- 1 at the beginning of your animation and one at the end where you can see the increase in time? Then compare the results. Can you also share the scene in question so we can have a look? Thank you.

@haniel1107 Please test and report, I’m also curious about that. Something I did see in antoher animation too - but can’t go back to it now.

Yes, sorry I was and I am a bit busy these days… promise, will do soon as possible..

Hello Aleksandar,
thank you for investigating this.

I did now the comparison with the same file from the first post here.
As expected the render times are quite good with Vray5, rendered first and last frame as stills. Also no problem with saving.

Regarding file share, I’ll trust you, no question, but I have no permission to share the car model.

Project Information:

I am rendering Vray CPU (Hybrid Crashes)
Saving with Cinema File Output Module

My Hardware: AMD TR 3990X / 2x2080i / 128 GB Ram / M2-SSD
Windows 10 Pro latest build and updates
Vray5 latest stable build
Latest Nvidia Driver

Hope this helps…

Thank you.

These 2 frames both state about 2:30min. When rendering animation, it goes up to 5-6 and more minutes. Definitely something wrong - saving/memory issues?

Hello @haniel1107 ,

Thank you for providing those details. I did some tests on my end but I was not able to reproduce such behavior here. Do you have a test scene where the issue is reproducible which you are allowed to share with us? Also, have you tried saving the files using the V-Ray Output System? If yes, please let me know if you still experience the same issue with it. Thank you.

Hello Aleksandar, I will try to render once this scene with the Vray Output overnight, as soon as I can.
I‘ll let you know the result…

Thanks..

Good Morning,
I could reproduce it.

I rendered overnight with vray output.
Timings started by 3 min between frames and raised up to 5 / 6 / 7 minutes.
Between Frame 116 and 117 even 8 minutes.

The rendering crashed at frame 119 and I don’t know why.
Couldn’t restart there this morning. Rendering crashes always at pass 857…at frame 119
Before, it worked…

But could restart from 120 and render times again low 3 minutes between frames.

Then stopped and started fresh from frame 115, where we had 8 minutes in between.
With a fresh render restart, time between frames again low, only 3 minutes…

So I am sure, there is an issue…

I have permission to share this file for internal testing.
Happy if you could investigate this, as I had this problem more than once…
Common to those projects… high poly car models and most textures are converted from 3.7, plus some new like car paint…
mostly cached animations

I’ll send you a private message with a link.. (uploading 4GB)

Thank you in advance..

Like to add…
at this file I am using some 600 MB textures.. but my ram isn’t getting higher than the installed 128GB when renderings..

The same issue happens also with a file where I have six high poly cars moving on a floor only… no backgrounds, no texture bigger than 20 MB… but a 10GB file

Hello @haniel1107 ,

Upon checking your scene I managed to reproduce this issue. I observed this when saving the sequence both locally and on a network location. I have logged this (bug ID: VC4D-932) in our internal bug-tracking system for investigating and I will let you know once we have more information. Thank you for your understanding.

Hello Aleksandar,
I am happy that you could reproduce it!
When that is fixed, you really benefit from the fast render engine.
Thanks!!

Hello aleksandar.kasabov ,

I have a new file were the time between frames is up to 16 -17 min. Single Frame rendering is 7 min.
I could render over night only a third of the projected frames.

Do you have made any progress on this problem?

Hello @haniel1107 ,

We do not have any additional information to share with you at this point. I will make sure to let you know as soon as we have any updates on the matter. Thank you for your patience.

Hi, I know you would mention progress on this issue.

But, is there something you can say on this issue?
How does such research look like, is it on a to do list or…

As this issue costs a lot of time… I know you at CG have a lot of it, but others and our paying clients not…
Thanks

Hello @haniel1107 ,

There is nothing I can share with you at this point. I have additionally boosted the priority of this issue and will update you as soon as we have any news. Thanks for your understanding.

Thank you!

Hello,
long time ago we discussed this problem… I am still experiencing this issue, even with the actual builds…

So there is no progress and this problem is literally a real time and cost killer…
Couldn’t this become more attention?
