Rendering Hair&Fur Animations

Every time i try to render a character with Hair&Fur in MR-Prim mode,
it flickers like a disco ball.

Settings are already much higher then usual for AA and irradiance map.

Does it only work with brute force GI?

Motion blur is also a problem.
I have set it to “object” for the hair,
but it doesnt match the 3D blur.
If the character is moving very fast it looks like the hair is hovering next to his head,
making him bald.

For the motion blur, you will have to tinker a bit with the motion blur parameters in the Hair&Fur render effect parameters (“duration” and “interval”) to make them match the V-Ray settings.

Other than that, can you post a few frames?

Best regards,
Vlado

Ok, i will try to match those mb settings.
I thought it would use the same motionblur as all the other objects because the hair is in MR-Prim mode, not buffer.

Thanks for your help!

Nope, it doesn’t… we get the data from the Hair&Fur engine, and it only looks at its own settings, not the V-Ray ones.

For the flickering, what are your GI settings?

Best regards,
Vlado

Ok, i understand.
I thought it would work like a proxy or displacement.

GI is on single frame mode, medium animation preset with 80/80 and 1/8 dmc aa and 0,005 threshold.
Lightcache is also on default with 1200 samples.

Double post.

Ok, can you verify to see if the flicker is because of the irradiance map, or the light cache?

Vlado

Im curious why you have to render this with gi in the first place? second you may just get away with bruteforce.

Yes, i could have used a domelight in this scene,
but its only a testscene, there will be more with indoor environments where it doesnt looks as good without real GI.
Maybe i could render the character with another pass and somehow composite it together with shadows and reflections but it would be difficult (for me).

Anyway i rendered some frames without secondary GI and the hair flicker is gone.
Looks like it was caused by the lightcache.
