So I put rtx 4090 into my old box - s5520sc mobo with 2 xeons e5520.
Performance is very poor - about 1500 pts in V-Ray GPU RTX benchamrk.
Is there somethig I can do or maybe my computer is just too old?

Nothing could be done about this, the CPUs are 14 years-old
It is time for an upgrade
You should get around 5600 paths with a new CPU + 4090

You were right. I was going to wait for threadripper zen 4 but I sped up the hardware change and things are definitely better on ryzen 9 7950X 
Now I get about 5800 pts in V-Ray GPU RTX benchamrk…
I’m glad to hear!
The 7950X is a very good CPU, the difference in performance compared to your old hardware should be day and night
