skylight portal very slow

If I enclose lamp with Vray mesh light which is set to skylight portal, generation of light cache is very sloooow…
Lampshade has shell modifier applied and VRayMaterial with translucency.
Is there any workaround?

Errr ok but why do you want to do that in the 1st place?

Just make your lampshade a vray double sided and your good to go. Fast render times and it looks great

Because I can get more light from lamp with translucency while keeping some shading on the lamps.
Also lamp without light inside (light turned off) looks better with translucency.
I know I can apply different materials when lamp emits light or not but I try to find universal material.

Can you send us this scene for investigation?
Thank you very much in advance.

Please, send the scene to Svetlozar, but I think it is a known issue - the portal light keeps “pulling” rays towards it and they keep bouncing around for a long time. I will have to think of some way around this, not sure why it wasn’t a problem before…

Best regards,
Vlado

Sorry for long delay…
Here is a max file:
This is a version with 2 sided material (no shell on geometry) but problem is the same - with skylight portal rendering is much longer (and darker).
Sometimes when scene is more complex calculation of light cache lasts forever.

Thanks for the scene - this is a bug and we are going to log in into our system.
Meanwhile you could optimize the rendering by:

Activating Simple(Skylight portal) option from LightParameters.
Turn ON Store Direct Light and Adaptive Tracing parameters from Light Cache settings.
Decrease the Bounces value from Light Cache settings.

The calculation of the LC will be still slower but not as much as if these options are disabled.
