Skyportal and desaturate vraysun/sky

Does vray light skyportal only work with Vray sun/sky? And is there any way to desaturate vray sky/sun?

vray light portal works with gi. It acts as a gateway to assist tracing gi from the area which is specified by vray light.

About sun/sky, there is no way to directly correct the color of the sky and the sun. However you can use a plugin called color correct for 3ds max, and run your sky through it, there you can correct the saturation.
But, the sky is built on a physically accurate formula, what you may want to do first is play around with gamma corrections.

Also look at the color balance option in the physcam

I remember it’s there to directly render light coming from behind the portal itself, not to aid the GI. (Of course, it will aid it in some way, since gi calculated from the direct light of the portal will probably be less noisy) I’m just curious, so correct me if I’m wrong.

Best regards,
A.

“portal” will sample the gi in the area of light…its a known approach to improve gi quality in interriors…fryrender for example employs same technique.

I tried skyportal without vray sun/sky today and it didn´t do anything.. we use it a lot with vray sun/sky tho and then it works perfectly.

Stick the sky in a color correction node and put that back in the environment box. You can juice or dejuice it to your hearts content.
