Slow loading time of materials on huge 2.5gb project

Hi Support,

I am currently working on a huge event site with litterally millions of polys n objects. I do work in a very organised way btw. Render times are sweet but every time I load up the project all the materials take forever to refresh. I did find one culprit, being my Cosmos browser is currently set to Dropbox. I use consolidate assets command in the asset inspector and this has helped a bit. I do have lots of materials in assetdb:///Sigershaders-C4D-Corona-R2 and other vendors but when I try n consolidate these items, C4D crashes. I have 4 versions of this site, each focusing on a specific area so 4 x 3GB files, not ideal. I will be buying a 4th SSD drive soon to move my Dropbox Cosmos link to, is this easy to do?

Love to hear some experience help here on insane amount of material links, driving me a bit nuts! John

Hi, thanks for your report. Just to clarify: by “slow loading time of materials” and “materials take forever to refresh” do you mean the time required to display the materials in the viewport? Or render the thumbnails? Or something else?

Hi Maru,

It’s loading the breviews at the bottom (the spheres).

You can control their quality in Corona > Preferences. You could try setting it to the lowest possible value and checking if it’s any faster.

I also remember that there was an idea to allow disabling material preview rendering whatsoever, which would probably help here. I will check what the status of this is.

On a second thought… Could you please contact us at https://support.chaos.com/hc/en-us/requests/new and send a scene where this can be reproduced? (it can be some kind of simplified/trimmed version of your huge scene). We would like to look into this.

Thanks Maru! Appreciate it  Will do this eve…

Hi Maru, I am suspecting it is because my Chaos lib is on Dropbox, can I copy this folder onto one of my SSD drives and re-link ok?

IME, “Project Asset Inspector” does fine…
