Spawner Fails

When using spawner it continually opens and closes maxfiles and the node is never available. I’ve seen the post several times, but I’ve yet to see an awnser. I’m running spawner6.0, max7 and Vray 1.47.03

help

sounds like an old problem i cant remember the fix its been so long now. i think you need to open the dummy file and resave it. i think it has to do with the fact that the spawner keeps trying to open max with the dummy and somehow max keeps crashing

Does it do it when you first start it or when you try to render?

If the later make sure there are no missing plugins and that maps etc. are accesible to the slave machine.

It does when I first launch spawner. I can open the dummy file without any problems.

whats the spawner.log say? it should be in the root of C:

very strange characters for the date. I have no idea what that is.

Hi !

I have absolutly the same problem with Max8…
I’ve installed Vray core on 2 machines, and none works, I’m going to
save Max Dummy as Da Elf proposes.
I’ve even formated one and just instal Max8 and Vray, but no luck.

About these informations…It 's the same as if it works.
I mean, it doesn’t help.

Bye !
Gael

Bad news,
I’ve just resaved the dummy with Max8 and nothing has changed…

Da elf I love your new avatar…!

I thought the set up was’nt the good one because it should be written
like this Vrender80 and not Vrender60 for max6…
So I don’t know what to think.

Nevertheless, it seems to work well for other people.

I’m having the same problem on one of my computers. I’ve tried everything I can think of including a reformat and install. No luck!

I’ve copied the files from a working computer, no luck. Very frustrating to have computers just setting there and not producing.

MAX 8 and 1.48.03

Is there a chance it could be hardware related? MAX and vray both open normally and run fine. It’s only when spawner is trying to run that there is a problem.

yeah it’s garbage. Vlado any thoughts?

hmm, maybe a long shot but

Also are you running any antivirus or firewall?

I have absolutly the same problem with Max8…

If you are doing a ‘fresh’ install of Max 8 on a computer that didn’t have Max 7 or less on it before, and install Vray, Vray will work. However, Vray Distributed Rendering will not work.

The solution is to first install Max7 on that comp, then install Max 8, and then Vray. You can then uninstall Max 7. Don’t ask me why the latest versions rely on MAx 7 to have been installed previously - it took me a whole frustrating week to figure this one out. I’ve had to do it on two separate ocassions because one of my other comps suffered a dead drive - so I know this works.

I believe DR does somehow tie into previous versions of Backburner - whether it’s a registry setting or something else - it’s beyond my knowledge. I’ve reported this bug on this forum not too long ago but never got a confirmation or response.

It’s a very strange solution Jujubee…

I cannot play with that on 3 computers where i should reinstall everything.

The solution is anormal.

It should work at the very first setup of Max and Vray…

A hardware problem ?
My two slave computers have a MSI MotherBoard and MP Processors from AMD.
One with XP sp1 the other with sp2…
What about you ajohnson48, TRGraphics, Jujubee ?

My third slave is different but I haven’t installe Max8 , I want to keep it functional at the moment.

To Rerender: there no antivirus neither firewall…Nothing ! just 2 fu… programs that do not want to work.

also is there a reason its not finding the spawner.ini file?

Yep. I completely agree with you. I don’t know why - the newer version of Vray must be looking for an older path somewhere. But this works. Unfortunately it doesn’t solve ajohnson’s problem.

A fresh install of a lower version of Max doesnt take that long, then reinstall Vray on your Max 8 DR slaves. I don’t think it’s necessary to reinstall Max 8.

There 's never been any spawner.ini file…
Vray always use default configuration.

I don’t understand your process, jujubee, you mean I leave Max8
then install Max7 and reinstall Vray on Max8 ??
But as I have already installed Vray, Maybe a track of it remains somewhere…

Why not ?
But it’s quite a bite like my former system.

Nevertheless, thank you for your help.

You called it jujubee!

I installed MAX7 and now it’s working. I didn’t have to reinstall MAX8 or vray 1.48.03. I just hit the spawner after installing MAX7 and it worked.
I would never have tried that or even suspected that this could be the problem. Chaos needs to take a serious look at this problem.

Thanks for the information, I’m now running on all engines!

Tony

Very strange indeed
So let’s try !

I confirm, IT WORKS !!!

Incredible !!!

Incredible !!!
Yep. It was an incredible pain in the ass to figure it out. But I’m glad it’s working for you guys now.

We really should try to figure out what it is that fixes it, my first guess is a different reg key for backburner 2 that backburner 3 doesn’t have.
