Steam Frame

Any word on if Enscape will be compatible with the upcoming Steam Frame?

Hi @calem , and thanks for your inquiry. At the moment, at least, I wouldn’t expect native compatibility at launch.

Enscape only supports Windows and macOS and runs as a plugin inside host apps (Revit, SketchUp, Rhino, etc.), not on SteamOS/Linux. Steam Frame is expected to run SteamOS on ARM, so running the full CAD + Enscape stack directly is unlikely.

The best-case scenario may be using the Steam Frame as a wireless VR headset while Enscape runs on a Windows PC and streams to it.

In any case, you can still gladly forward your inquiry as a “feature request” directly to our product management team (for at least a further internal discussion) using our Ideas Portal, as detailed here.

Thanks @Demian_Gutberlet ,

So similar to the Quest 3?

I would say pretty much yes, that would be the closest comparison in principle: using it as a standalone/wireless headset while Enscape runs on a Windows PC and streams to it (similar to Quest Link/Air Link).

The key difference I can think of is that the exact streaming/PC-VR workflow will depend on what Steam Frame supports at launch.
