Still can't get my head around round edge shader...

Hi Forum,

Have a bit of down time so thought I’d have another go athe the ‘round shader’… still as confused as first time, cant get any reslults. I have set up a super simple scene, both cubes are 200mm sq, round shader is set to standard 10cm. No result… The two cubes on the left have round shader, two on the right none. Why am I not seeing the edges and interesections being rounded? Love to get this to work!

I’d significantly reduce the radius there - you can see the ones on the left are being affected, as it’s like the whole surface has “ballooned out” which means the normals are being rounded, but over a pretty massive distance. After all, the cubes are 20cm, and the radius is 10cm, which means the edges round so much the rounding meets in the middle (since one edge rounds 10cm out, and the opposite edge rounds 10cm out).

Also, it depends on the lighting conditions, since it’s normal/bump based and can’t fully replace proper geometry.
Tho still, something in the matrix feels/looks off (dark edge (limitations(?))…

Thanks Burnin!

Got it working. Looks ok but not perfect. I have tried this in Blender and looks MUCH better. Still prefer Corona ALL DAY

Question, is this topic about the RoundEdges Shader that you can add in the Bump channel, or is this a new v14 thing I haven’t learned about yet?

This is about the Round Edge shader in bump channel. Nothing new in this direction as far as I know.
