Stuck on 'Computing sec.GI'

Hi,

Since updating to Corona 5 on my workstation I have encountered this problem in I would say 75% of my max scenes when I hit render.

In the rendering dialogue, when the current task gets to Computing sec. GI the progress bar will get to around 90% and then just hold. the time elapsed keeps increasing but essentially max has crashed. Hitting stop or cancel doesn’t do anything and I have to stop Max in the Task Manager. This is happening on the simplest and lightest scenes. I have tested it with just one piece of small geometry and it still happens. Only since i updated to Corona 5 has this problem occurred.

I am having to rebuild scenes from scratch to get them working which is taking up a lot my time during the day and isn’t ideal.

Has anyone else had this issue? I am using Max 2019.

Thanks.

It really would help if you could send one of such scenes to support for investigation. Chaos

Yep, as Romullus said, it would be great to investigate those scenes.
Just one idea - what is your RAM usage when UHD Cache calculation freezes? Is it possible that it’s because of running out of RAM?

Hi Maru,

I also thought about the RAM but it levelled out at 9gb. I have 64gb installed.

I just uninstalled Corona 5 and went back to the last version of 4 and the scenes rendered perfectly straight away. So it does seem to be something related to Corona 5 and my setup.

I will try and upload a scene tomorrow.

Thanks.

Hi James. Any news here? Did you upload the scene?

Moving to resolved because of inactivity.

I got the same problem right now.
C4d Mac Corona 5.

Sometimes it renders without mistakes, but 50% of the time its stuck in secondary gi pre comp.

Hi Len,

Can you please contact us at support@corona-renderer.com describing your issue in more detail and we can go from there? Thanks!

Any solutions on this subject? Because I’ve same problems with sec gi calculations. 3dmax|64gbram|corona5
Pretty heavy exterior scene, but on the previous render version no problems were noted

Hi Verde, please contact us at support@corona-renderer.com and have some details ready for us such as Max & Corona version, your OS, and the scene file if possible. We have a private uploader that only our staff has access to. Chaos
