Studio Max 9 SP2

Well, Service Pack 2 is out for 3dsmax9 - a very quick release as SP1 was out only a month ago.

Now, the rant! This service pack still does not fix our issue which we’ve been experiencing for almost a year, with no resolution from Autodesk!

3dsmax incorrectly handles the UCS from X-Ref’d drawings created with Mechanical Desktop. This bug was introduced in RealDWG2007.

Autodesk have acknowledged that there is an issue, but that’s where it ends.
Let’s see what happens when we suggest revoking 8 subscriptions..?

Autodesk 3ds Max 9 Service Pack 2 is aimed primarily at addressing Vista compatibility issues. It includes a number of fixes specific to Windows Vista, as well as fixes across several functional areas, including Animation, Backburner, Batch Rendering, Biped, Editable Poly, Editable Mesh, Hair, Materials, Maxscript, mental ray, Reactor, Render to Texture, SDK and UV Unwrap.

Ok, it doesn’t touch VRay.
Phew!

Lele

heh, pretty funny, they try to excuse the service pack every month thing by saying it is mainly a Vista fix, but then go on to longer list of other fixes than in SP1.

That’s good though we’ll be rolling out Max 9 soon and more fixes is more better.

how many more bug will it bring to the surface!

This service pack 2 cannot be installed on top of the productivity booster!

Does that mean we have to uninstall max to get rid of the productivity booster and then install SP2?

Vivek

lol, yes, as i just discovered.
Unless you can find a way to rollback the PB installation, which i couldn’t.
Maybe the PB can be installed later on top of it, but hey, your choice.

Lele

Wow, seriously? It cannot be installed over the extension? Really should have kept the Discreet guys, the Viz team is just retarded…

OMG that has to be the dumbest thing that AME has done yet, thats just fricken stupid…

-dave

i knew SP1 was about as usful as a screen door on a submarine…this just proves it

be nice to get an email saying that there is even a service pack

yeah what great ‘subscription’ service!

wtf how dump is that???..

There is a new Extension 1 R2 :stuck_out_tongue:

Doesn’t say anything except just that it is revision 2 in the text. the download file is even named the same as the first one, the funny thing is that the files are dated 4/5/07 before the first one was released.

Autodesk are a joke! Lets see what they say at Siggraph this year.

As usual

Lol, Eric, you go for it first and let us know, ok?
I wonder what they smoke, it must have been better stuff in Canada…

Lele

LET’s all move down (or UP) there to Canada…
So sorry, i just stoped smoking…

I spoke to someone at Autodesk today regarding our issue. He said he would escalate it up the food chain, but…

“To put in in as clear language as possible, Mechanical Desktop is history” and “There hasn’t been any development on MDT for the last few years, all we’ve done is kept it compatabile with the latest Autocad format”.

Please tell me why we’re paying thousands each year per subscription, for software that has been broken and is not being updated? I’m furious. They’re telling us that, if they can’t do an easy fix (he has his fingers crossed, but isn’t expecting one), we’ll have to upgrade to inventor. What a load of bull^&*t.

That said, we’re not asking for a fix for MDT, we’re asking for a fix for 3dsmax. They introduced the problem, so it should be their responsibility to rectify it.
</rant>

Will keep you guys posted.

Edit: I should say that a fix would probably take up no more than 30 lines of code…
if xref.ucs != 0 (xref.position = xref.position + xref.ucs)

hmm…
