Hi!
As our matchmove department is using Syntheyes as primary tracking software, we run some tests and discovered, that vray’s and syntheyes distortion algorithms don’t match exactly. I wonder if it was possible to implement a syntheyes style lens distortion to the VrayPhysicalCam. Details about how this is handled can be found on this http://www.ssontech.com/content/lensalg.htm page.
The problem is, that in syntheyes it is applied as a not 100% correct 2d post effect. So basically, I know that vray is doing it correctly, but the question is, if this kind of 2d-fake distortion could be implemented already while rendering as we need the 3D plates to be matching the exact syntheyes distortion?
It can be implemented, yes. Different programs do image distortions with slightly different formulas, so that would be a problem that will come up frequently. I’m already thinking of adding an option for choosing among several distortion mapping methods.
Oh yeah i almost forgot that a variation of realviz matchmover will be available for max free of charge and will be called MMtrack. It’s in fact a max plugin and it means it will be integrated with the interface of the application. Providing it’s finally free as stated, I would take a look at it, cos it can quickly become the standard tracking solution for max users…I will give it a go for sure!
