Another personal project, done just for the fun of it I wanted to try something completely different, and ended up with the idea of recreating the Battle of Hoth from star wars This meant trying to capture the feeling of snow, as well as a more cinematic overall look. This time around some extra stuff was done in post-production… the laser lights and colorgrading for example:-)
I hope you enjoy! … and i apologize for any details not in line with the original movie
Interesting side effect - for me the polystyrol output looks more like snow than the snow material. @Thomas_Willberger - do you know how to get this effect for materials? Is there a keyword?
Hehe, Thanks a lot! Sometimes it’s okay to have some fun
well, actually he is just really bad at his job… it’s hard to get decent help nowadays
Thanks! yep, the white render looks more like new, soft snow… but I wanted a more Icy hard look in the final image I think you can recreate the effect with a white material, a little bump, and some shine… it should not be too dificult to achieve
Well, that is excactly what i did actually, and you do get a feeling of the color/light cast on the snow I tried different ways of doing them, but ended up with transparent tubes with an emissive inner-tube, and then som point lights along them. They didn’t come out great on the renders, so i made two different versions og the image (with and without the beams), and used the one with beams for lighting effects, and then made the beams themselves in photoshop. Se attached photos, with two different exposures
