Turning on directional light option in Vray light makes the light invisible in render

Hi,
as the topic says…
what should i do to make it vidible? This is somewhat weird (nicely said)…cant fix it no matter what i do.
The vray online manual is empty when it comes to this option…

Please help i am under deadline and dont want to be adding more light planes in as i already have about 50 lights in the scene

Thanks a lot

Best Regards

yes I’ve found the at 0 it is white and at 1 it is black, in between it is grey. Not sure if this is intentional or a bug

maybe for now copy all the lights down by 1mm and turn off the directional parameters, and also switch off all its options (except switching the light off)

Hi Morne, thanks for the tip but i am worried this would cause slowdown and unexpected results in complicated scene
there shoudl be at least a note in the manual about this feature…its is sad the online manual is being left so much behind :-////

This is not a bug; it’s a logical consequence of the light being directional - it emits light forward, which is why you can’t see it from the side.

Best regards,
Vlado

You can lower the amount slightly and get them to show up, or just put a luminous polygon in front of the light to act as the visible element.

Hey Vlado - this has come up before and will likely continue to do so. Maybe there could be an option to have the directional parameter not affect the visible shape of the light?

Thnaks for the pointer guys!
