I´m having some trouble with glass. The thing is that I want to have the reflections from the vray environment, but I don´t want the refraction, because I see the HDR in the background of the glass, and in fact the background should be white.
The problem is that if I don´t use the hdr in the reflection/refraction environment, that afects the whole scene and the reflection on other materials.
I tried setting refraction to 0 in the VRay properties, but the object renders solid white (as the background) ocluding everithing else
I´m kind of lost here, don´t know what else to try. If you could give me a hand in this one I´ll appreciate it.
Da_elf: I already have IOR = 1 and the falloff in the reflection as you say.
You´ll better see what I mean with this image:
I´m using a white environment and a matte/shadow for the base.
I want the hdr for reflections, but the glass is also refracting it and I see it in the background. :? This is what I want to avoid.
I tried to set to 0 the refraction in the Vray Object Properties of the glass, but nothing changes…
I would like to set the ground plane to be invisible to reflection/refraction (so I don´t get the white reflected on the glass), but I leave it as is for the moment.
1_ Std Mat with vraymap in the reflection slot and the hdr in the environment slot of the vraymap, all of this under a Vray Mat wrapper.
2_ Std Mat with vraymap in the reflection slot and the hdr in the environment slot of the vraymap
3_ Std Mat with vraymap
4_ Std Mat with the hdr in the reflection slot. (but I loose other reflections)
Do you know wich option gives the better result?
Is a Vray bug what was happening before with the vray mat?
Once with a VRay material that is black, no refraction and only reflection.
Then turn off reflection, and render only refraction with a different environment.
Or you could curve your matte BG up behind your object like a studio background. That way you won’t see the HDRI either..
I can’t see your images so I apologize if this isn’t possible in your scene.
i presonally think that the override max environment for reflection and refraction found in render settings is correct. however the environment slot in the vray material should override the vray override in render settings. (if that makes sence to you. it does to me :p)
