Vantage Ornatrix hair in viewport percentage vs render, and other optimisations

Is there a way to have Vantage render 100% of my baked Ornatrix strands but not have them all displayed in the viewport? As it does when using Vray GPU or CPU
I usually set the viewport to display only 20% for example, so it keeps the viewport responsive - but Vantage will only render what this value is set to , so I have to set it to 100% to have it parse correctly.

Also, another unrelated question – if I have layers hidden/switched off in my scene is Vantage still loading the textures/geo into the scene? I’m wondering about optimising – if deleting these objects would speed things up at all?

Hey cam_910,

Vantage should match what V-Ray GPU renders. If there is a mismatch between them then please send us the scene so we can investigate it further.

Usually hidden objects don’t export at all so deleting them will not improve performance.

Best regards,
Alexander

Actually it seems its only Vrau CPU which can handle this, you can set the hair preview count to 10% for example, but the VFB render will display 100% - GPU and Vantage cant handle this, you have to set it to 100% “Preview strand fraction” in viewport, I took screen shots of a simple test with identical hair balls, one is 5% in viewport other on right is 100%. Files are named according to what rendered it

Edit: I found if I check the setting in IPR “use render state in IPR”, it fixed the issue, and vantage / GPU render is at 100% with a low count in the viewport… I found the answer in old GPU thread on the forum. Not obvious !

Ok this causes a different issue though! If I check ‘use render state in IPR’ – a simple V-Ray fur object I have on a deforming (skinned) mesh in the same scene as Ornatrix; the object no longer follows the mesh and gets left behind as it deforms. The ref frame is 0 - as is the render range. If I switch this off…it works as it should. So one can’t have one without the other, it seems!
