This may be an obvious thing, but I feel compelled to ask anyway. If I buy 1 VRay 3ds Max Workstation license and 1 VRay Maya Workstation license, does that come with 2 render nodes licenses? If so, does that mean that I could render with VRay 3ds Max on one machine and use the VRay Maya render node license as a second license (e.g., slave render node) for my 3ds Max render (similar to buying 1 3ds Max license and 1 additional render node license)?
theres meant to be a universal license system in the works i read, dont know when though

Yes!
I can confirm this works. With every UI license you have a universal render node license. So if you have Vray for 3Ds max and Vray for Maya, you will be able to render with 3Ds max and use another machine as render slave.
But having both maya and Max running at the same time you will not be able to use your slave nodes.
Yes, you can use the render node licenses, they are the same for each V-Ray version. As long as the license is free it can be used to engage a second machine for rendering. Also - licenses have backwards compatibility - i.e. - you can use a NEXT render node license to render a job submitted with V-Ray 3, but not vice - versa. V-Ray 2 has a different type of licensing, so this principle doesn’t apply there.
That’s great. Thank you ![]()
