Really simple thing here. I’m using Vray 2.4 3ds max 2013 windows 7 64 bit. I want to mix the vray edge texture with a bitmap to create a leather with highlights on edges. I am certain I have done this before fine. However now if I use a mix, composite or vray composite it just will not blend. As soon as the vray edge texture is set to even 1% on the composite or mix it kills off the bitmap completely.
Is this a known bug in 2.4?
It is working fine for this guy in an older version of vray?
Any help much appreciated as this is obviously really frustrating
I think I have found the issue. On your test can you add the mix to a vray multisub texture on channel one and now render. The result are different.
I also get issues with Vray multisub texture and bump cannels not working in Vray RT at all.
I can post the max file if you need to your email but I think you will be able to recreate this easily as it does work when not within a vray multisub texture
I have emailed the scene where it is not working including the geometry. basically if the mix shader is set to 100% noise map it renders with noise in the bump, if the mix is set to 1% vray edge texture and 99% noise, the noise completely disappears.
I can see that my colleague Tashko has replied to you via email , I am going to post his answer here as well.
Thank you for sending us the scene file.
We didn’t find any issues for this setup and it seems that Mix map, V-Ray Multisub Tex, Noise and V-Ra Edge Tex works fine together.
However, please check the attached scene and screenshots. In screenshot “Original_setup” we show how the scene is rendered without any changes in our environment (3DS Max 2013/V-Ray 2.40.04 the latest official build). For the second one, we have copied the values from the Noise and Edge Tex textures to the Cube in the right.
Also there are two small cubes with different settings in the Mix map (99% and 1%) that produce correct render result.
We have also noticed that the object “polySurface1” has an odd UV’s. Maybe you could try to apply a “Reset X form” and new UV mapping to it.
Hope this helps you.
Let us know if we can be of any further assistance.
We have replied on the same email that you have used to open a new ticket - I could post the address here if you want.
The setup with the MixMap is working correctly on all geometries that we have tested here - but for some reason it doesn’t work on your geometry.
Is this geometry imported from somewhere - can you test the same setup on your side but on geometry created by 3DSMax ?
As a workaround you could prepare two separate materials - one with noise-bump and another one with edge-texture-bump and mix them through VrayMlendMtl - I have tested this here and it worked fine.
