Vray Plane Lights

Hi,

I am doing an internal shot with the sun/sky system. I’ve seen people here using vray plane lights in the window openings too so have added one to my scene.

I’ve got cast shadows, invisible, ignore light normals, and affect diffuse selected (all else not selected). The multiplier is set at 1.0.

When I render the scene it is darker than without the plane light.

Is this correct, and if so, how should I use plane lights with the sun/sky system for internal shots.

Thanks.

When I use VRay Lights in the windows I usually set the multiplier somewhere between 7 and 10.
Although recently I had a room where I set them to 15-20 but that was mainly because someone else had done (a shitty job at) the lighting and I couldn’t be arsed to change all the light and camera settings.

Since I have never done that i would venture to say you need to check the skylight portal tick box on the light properties.

John

well of course it gets darker. because VRayLights cast shadows so you are effectively locking out the Sun/Sky from your interior. You have to set the VRay light to be a Skylight Portal for that setup to work.
