VRay RT Bug :-)

Hiho,

first of all YEAH wohoo, thanks and YES.

The RT beta is up and running  I cannot find a way to switch to GPU mode, but all my CPU are running like crazy!

I will start playing around and post everything here.

1. Switching the smoothproxy inside maya causes a crash or makes the object invisible in Rt rendering.
2. Changing visibility of groups with some lights inside has no effect. The lights still stay visible in the rendering.
3. Changing the color gain settings of a filetexture connected into the GI/Ref or Refraction environment causes an error: V-Ray warning: Render host pslwst38 (127.0.0.1) is not responding
4. Same error happens when I change the texture to another file.
4. Rendering a scene with displacement is not possible. Same error as above.

Thanks again!!!

Paul

wow! what?! where did you get the RT beta?!

Show a screenshot Paul…

Found it by accident in the nightbuilds from last night

btw. It is working directly with a completely lit scene with a lot of rect lights, motion blur and a lot of geometry!

haha…lucky you!!
it seems like it’s gone now (unless it’s inside the rar)… ;(

no it is in the VRay for Maya builds.

hmmm… it doesn’t seem to be in the 2008 darwin release. I’ll check the 2011 one at home then, i’m guessing that RT is using the VFB which isn’t in 2008…

Edit: oh it’s in there! but i’m getting this error
// Error: ERROR: Could not create plugin RTEngine ! //
// Error: There was a fatal error rendering the scene. //

Probably not quite ready for action yet

Well Vlado did say they would add it to the nightly once it reached Alpha. But, they didnt mention it in the release notes, so I didnt think it was there. Okay, now I wanna drive home on my lunch break and play with it.

looking at nightly builds now, dont see it maybe i dont have access? is this a separate installer for RT or does install with vraySP1?

Paul says it’s inside the regular nightly build. No separate installer, no comment in release notes.

I Had a look in today and yesterday’s build and didn’t find it… Either it has been remove or I cannot find it in Maya.

Try IPR render

@Vlado: How can I use my GPU for rendering? I cannot find any options so far :frowning:

You can’t switch it on in this version yet.

Best regards,
Vlado

ok, please let put that information into the release notes of the new builds after it is avaiable

Nice!!! Thanks.

Oh boy! This is amazing news! Just fiddeling around with and smiling

C’mon guys, details please…

How long does it take to cleanup for medium sized polygon count?

How big of a render (image size) have you tried?

I just made a very few tests, nothing special and just very simple geo. And i wasn’t able to get rid of all noise, but thats most likely my own fault. Just tested some objects with vrmats, blurry refls, vrlights and a light dome. And even if it’s not the way to render final images for animation (by now), the instant feedback you get (with my q6600) when i.e. rotating the lightdome, changing light intensities or material properties is amazing. Fantastic for lighting scenes fast and getting the right mood. The rotation is only working for the dome light, though, not for the “override environment” stuff.

And thanks again for implementing all those features, killing all that bugs and taking care of user suggestions and whishes. There are lots of improvements. Great work already!

One question though. Is the RT not included in the OSX build?

I can confirm that the RTEngine is not in the OS X builds. At least not in the 2008 or the 2011 versions…

I couldn’t actually get it to work properly in 2011 (x64) in Windows 7 either, but that’s probably more of an incompetence thing on my part :stuck_out_tongue:
It didn’t give me the error (ERROR: Could not create plugin RTEngine) that OS X did, but just kept crashing after IPR ran for a little while.

We’ve got to remember that this is in development though
