The RT beta is up and running I cannot find a way to switch to GPU mode, but all my CPU are running like crazy!
I will start playing around and post everything here.
1. Switching the smoothproxy inside maya causes a crash or makes the object invisible in Rt rendering.
2. Changing visibility of groups with some lights inside has no effect. The lights still stay visible in the rendering.
3. Changing the color gain settings of a filetexture connected into the GI/Ref or Refraction environment causes an error: V-Ray warning: Render host pslwst38 (127.0.0.1) is not responding
4. Same error happens when I change the texture to another file.
4. Rendering a scene with displacement is not possible. Same error as above.
hmmm… it doesn’t seem to be in the 2008 darwin release. I’ll check the 2011 one at home then, i’m guessing that RT is using the VFB which isn’t in 2008…
Edit: oh it’s in there! but i’m getting this error
// Error: ERROR: Could not create plugin RTEngine ! //
// Error: There was a fatal error rendering the scene. //
Well Vlado did say they would add it to the nightly once it reached Alpha. But, they didnt mention it in the release notes, so I didnt think it was there. Okay, now I wanna drive home on my lunch break and play with it.
I just made a very few tests, nothing special and just very simple geo. And i wasn’t able to get rid of all noise, but thats most likely my own fault. Just tested some objects with vrmats, blurry refls, vrlights and a light dome. And even if it’s not the way to render final images for animation (by now), the instant feedback you get (with my q6600) when i.e. rotating the lightdome, changing light intensities or material properties is amazing. Fantastic for lighting scenes fast and getting the right mood. The rotation is only working for the dome light, though, not for the “override environment” stuff.
And thanks again for implementing all those features, killing all that bugs and taking care of user suggestions and whishes. There are lots of improvements. Great work already!
One question though. Is the RT not included in the OSX build?
I can confirm that the RTEngine is not in the OS X builds. At least not in the 2008 or the 2011 versions…
I couldn’t actually get it to work properly in 2011 (x64) in Windows 7 either, but that’s probably more of an incompetence thing on my part
It didn’t give me the error (ERROR: Could not create plugin RTEngine) that OS X did, but just kept crashing after IPR ran for a little while.
We’ve got to remember that this is in development though
