vray sun

When using a vray physical cam, setting the image to 720x480 and using safe frame, the sun does not appear in the rendered image where it appears on the monitor. I have to place the sun almost at the middle of the image on the monitor to get it to appear in the upper right hand corner. I move it around and what i see on the monitor is quite different from what i see in the image. I’m wondering why. (it diesn’t matter if i use still camera, movie camera or video camera, the result is the same)
thanks.

The sun is really positioned infinitely far away. Not exactly where you place the icon. Try increasing the distance from the target to the sun icon. It’ll give you a more accurate idea the farther away you place it, but the changes get exponentially smaller as well so no point to putting it too far away.

i see…so does placing the icon farther from the target affect any of the other things like shadows and such? (I’m guessing not)

No, it’s like putting in a direct light in max set to overshoot.

Exactly. There is no decay on the sun. Unless maybe you’re on Mars (well, in relation to Earth, not different places on Mars).

On a related note: Why is there decay on the vray dome light? Shouldn’t it function like environment lighting in terms of infinite distance from the scene geometry?

I don’t think the decay has any effect for the dome light; it should be greyed out…

Its not greyed out, but I always disable it to be safe. Isn’t it like 23:45 in Bulgaria right now? Thanks Vlado.
