Hi, I am trying to render a very simple scene for a project. The scene only consist of walls, a few simple components, and simple diffuse materials. When I hit render it takes FOREVER, like 2-5 minutes to process the scene and begin rendering. At the caption bar it says . When I use VRay in Rhino with a much more complex scene and materials it starts instantly.
I have a Quad Core q6600, slightly overclocked but I have tested it stable.
I even lowered the clock speed and makes no difference.
Im using Sketchup 7 and vray 1.05.30.
thanks
Re: Vray takes forever to process simple scene
Hi,
it’s a normal issue if you don’t use the ruby “remove CG materials”. Use that, there’s a topic about it.
Well, if you purge the model you will also see a improve in speed.
Hope it works bro.
Re: Vray takes forever to process simple scene
The Golden Rule of VfSU:
NEVER apply materials to groups/components.
ONLY apply materials to faces.
Re: Vray takes forever to process simple scene
It helps to “ease the pain”, but the parsing time of VfSU are too long. Even after C-G plugin + purging takes 2-5 :o min on my usual scenes which is about 100,000-150,000 Polys. ![]()
Re: Vray takes forever to process simple scene
Lots of groups/components?
I notice that Revit imported models which are high on component count takes noticeable longer time than a scene I model myself.
Re: Vray takes forever to process simple scene
In my current project parsing takes 3 min. And the model has:
Component Definitions - 303 (instances - 6050)
Faces - 127,550
Groups - 41
Materials - 77

Then what do you apply the material to of a component?
Also I cleaned the scene up and removed every component and material and parsing is normal now, but I do need a few components.
Thanks for the suggestions!
Re: Vray takes forever to process simple scene
Apply materials directly to the faces inside components and groups. Many comps/groups have the default SU material applied to faces, which makes it possible to apply a material to the outside of the comp/group and it will appear to paint all the default material faces within the group. However, it is this feature of SU which causes VfSU parsing problems, so it’s best avoided.
Re: Vray takes forever to process simple scene
just to be clear here guys. When You speak about “parsing”, you mean the process before the frame buffer pops up when it says something about “preparing the scene” right?
Re: Vray takes forever to process simple scene
Yep, “parsing” is the the term for the process of VfSU “reading” the information from the skp file before rendering.
Re: Vray takes forever to process simple scene
Does it happen only with me?
When I run Remove CG and then check the materials in the model, I see some components are now monochrome, it is, their materials have gone. :-\
Re: Vray takes forever to process simple scene
Yeh this issue is a real pain in the ass, after cleaning up the entire model and exploding it, I just had to wait 11 mins for it to start rendering >![]()
Re: Vray takes forever to process simple scene
Try this:
Re: Vray takes forever to process simple scene
I did this on the model which I exploded and it didn’t seem to do anything, parsing was still around the 10 minute mark - however just now I did it on an earlier save of the model, which still had all the groups and components and parsing was around 2 - 3 mins…
Conclusion: the plug in works
great work !
Re: Vray takes forever to process simple scene
If you explode the model there is no point at all to use this plugin…
