It is a good question. I think the first update expected by the end of September.

It is a very useful software, is not cheap and is having a lot of competition. I hope soon to be published the first update.

When? It depends on the administrators know the answer.

Yeah I think we’ll be releasing a beta version of the service release in the next 2 weeks. I still have a few things I need to look into before I comfortable in releasing it. But as of now I have the majority of sun/sky/sr/ nested geometry / light issues resolved. I’ve done a major overhaul of our material workflow. I’m still putting the finishing touches on that and I still want to work on making sure there are always default surface uvs generated - but I guess that is not 100% required for a beta release of this.

We’ll keep you guys posted on our progress - feel free to ask us if you have any specific questions about it.

Will displacement maps be resolved in the coming beta version?? I have followed Taoklai’s tutorial, but it seems to work on only some of my models…and there is still the issue of having to do displacement last (very unstable).

Thanks JoeB for that update.
A little question: will the new material system make it possible to keep the sketchup uv-settings for clipmap materials? Right now this is not possible by linking the SU mat that will have a clipmap.

e.g clipmap trees, backgrounds etc…

I HATE TO SAY THIS BE WE ARE NOW ALMOST THE END OF OCTOBER AND I STILL DONT SEE THE NEW RELEASE. REALLY I NEED THAT ASAP FOR A PROJECT THAT IT WAS SUPPOSE TO BE DONE A LONG TIME AGO FOR A CLIENT. PLEASE LET US KNOW

Well, I can tell you that Joe is hard at work getting things together. We should have something (a beta) out very soon and we will go from there. I can tell you from what I’ve been playing around with that materials are better and the DR is more stable/reliable. Thats all I’ve got from V-Ray Land (but not in Bulgaria :))

I’m in favor for smaller more frequent fixes.
I’d really like to have better functioning distributed rendering and can live with some other things not beeing solved just yet.
…or better yet. BIG frequent fixes. :wink:

Its now mid december. What is happening?
Is the service release more unstable than the current version, or why not releasing a version with what is ready now and release a new when the remaining features are fixed?
I feel a certain degree of discomfort when a service release takes this long to be released. Or are you skipping the service release for a major new version instead?

I totally agree with 112. We all have been hearing about the new release since october and still i havent heard a word nor my replies from the vray team. So at least say someting, so we all feel that you are not invisible.
