  • Vray Edges as Bump not working in cloud

I've noticed that objects with the Vray Edge map assigned to the bump are rendering out all hidden edges too even though it's turned off. I've attached a view of a table rendered locally and in the cloud. Locally the edges work as expected but the same settings in the cloud renders all hidden edges. The table itself is low poly and the vertices have been moved to break up straight lines. All vertices are welded and no modifier is used. I originally had the setting to Convex only but changed it back to Convex and Concave and it still does the same. This has happened in a few projects now and I end up having to spot render locally any element that shows this behavior.

    I'm also using Update 2.3

I was able to find the issue. Locally I define a bump map with Vray Edges and a Bitmap using the Mix map and set it to 50 to equally blend the two bumps. I can then use the mix amount to bias which bump I want to be prevalent. When I use this in the cloud it visibly adds the bump to all internal edges. Not sure if that's a bug or if you shouldn't mix the two, but if I don't use the mix it renders fine in the cloud.

      Hi Bullen,

Thank you for the thorough report and the follow-up! I have just one clarifying question before talking with my 3D Support colleagues. Is this 3ds Max where you design your model?

      Thanks,

          Hi Bullen,

Thanks for the follow-up. Colleagues from the Chaos 3D Support team tried to reproduce the issue but couldn't. If you can share a sample scene with the materials which can be used to reproduce the issue, that'll help us a lot. Please let me know if you can do that.

          Thanks,
          Vladie
