  • Surreal Structures :: Furniture

    Hi,

This is just some furniture I modeled for a project that someone else will texture, stage and render. The teacup is by Manny over at Evermotion. I used v1.0903r.

    edited to update image.

Fran, I like the lamp but I don't quite get the intention of the first image. Is it to show the rendering as a whole or just the furniture?

Either way I think they both could use some work. The chair & the sofa look way too hard & plastic to ever sit on. Like I should talk I can't model furniture worth beans, so I pay somebody else to do it.

On a positive note, the lighting seems pretty good!

We miss you here. Maxwell has stolen you away from us!

Well, since the furniture is what Im being paid to do, it looks like I need to work some more on it.

Perhaps some constructive criticism would be helpful to me.

The tilted wall painting is a nice touch...

                Nice Fran,

the image improved a lot although I can't tell exactly what changed. Seems like your Vray images are improving since you use Maxwell, but that may be just me.

                    Frances,

Lightmapping is excellent. Only the shadows seem to be going the wrong way.

                      Hi Ismael,

It isn't light mapping. This is 1.0903r.

There is another window that isn't in view on the wall opposite the picture, beside the floor lamp. The Vray lights in the two front windows have a multiple of 15 and the one at the side window a multiple of 2. I suppose I could have the illumination for the third light stored in the irradiance map and that would dampen any noticeable shadows from that source. But I don't think the situation is unrealistic, since the multiple is so much lower than the other two lights and skylight through that window should contribute shadows.

I rendered a crop without the rug texture. The black arrows show the shadows from the front windows. The other arrows show the shadows from secondary sources.

any reason you havent made the update? or its just a case of not wanting to encounter new bugs when you have spend so much time getting used to the old ones?

                          Hi Da_elf,

I just haven't had time to make the switchover. I may not do it until the official release build comes out anyway.
