  • New apartment, new method

    Hi,
so here's a new flat rendered with pixelbox method. I like the way the light enters the room, more contrast than with the dome. Also I'm starting to use new rgb values for black/white.
On these, I may have added too much colour in post.

Looks great i think! Much more predictable to work with those color vslues right?

        Looks great !
much better than the previous one imo (I think design choices helped here too : )) )
So for the main lighting you are using the 2 plans methods that Martin mentioned in the previous thread ?
        -------------------------------------------------------------
Simply, I love to put pixels together! Sounds easy right : ))

Yes, nice work. I am assuming you have a blue plane above and a yellowish plan as the sun. Where did you get the nomenclature?

Haha, yes, forgot to check the signature...sorry Martin.
So yes, one plane light above a bit bigger than the flat (blueish), and the other is the sun plane. Though I had to increase the sun plane multiplier since I reduced its size to get sharper shadows.
And of course a grey object on the bottom (outside) to bounce that light.

Can't get any simpler. I tried it, but it is hard to get a baseline. Where your interior lights real-world numbers? I suppose everything would have to work together to work.

No, I adjust multipliers on all my scenes. Still haven't tried real world settings.

1: composition. stay with sofas and crop half of the dining space or even all of it and show sofas and windows. you ended up with a barrier in the middle of the frame that splits viewer’s attention in two.
2: composition. looks like it’s all about the doors and getting out of the room. show just dining and kitchen here.
3: composition again. bed should be the primary subject as it defines any bedroom space the most. chest of drawers is obstructing it but does not seem to be presented in a way sugesting it being the main hero. it just sort of jumps in to the frame to be noticed but doesn’t have much to say. and black glass on the right needs balancing. I dont’t have a solid idea for this one but it’s not working now.

Trying blacks to be 10, and whites about 200. I used an old technique where my whites were barely 110...both in rgb and textures.

piotrus thanks for the suggestions but with acrhviz all my clients define the view and want to show as much as possible in renders. If I was doing my portfolio I would do it your way.

I know it's not easy with some clients to push two images instead of one or showing just part of the space but it is definitely worth trying. well composed images will defend themselves easily when shown side by side. some concepts are universal, people tend to like certain patterns. just be confident than you know better than the client how to produce pleasant illustration.

Bobby if you use 10-200 rgb values, the the best way to start getting nice results is to setup some normal camera exposure as you woudl setup in the real world. Once this is done, you only setup the intensity of the main light until youre happy and the tweak the fill light. I always setup the VFB to have burn from 0,15 to 0,2 and contrast at 0,2-0,25 and leave exposure intact and try to expose only by the power of light and camera properties to avoid as much noise as possible.

Anyway, my approach kind of changes form scene to scene, depending on the amount of the dark tones in the scene or if the interior is especially bright for example.

I am assuming you are removing the sun and sky planes from reflection and specular and making it invisible, correct?
