Just in case your not joking. From the gradient environment map like I said.
Haha, I just realized I was talking about the hard shadow in CCS post not yours WHOOPS I was about to question how the hell you got hard shadows with a gradient ramp environment map
is there a difference between using a saved vrlmap from the light cache or a jpeg from the render window as pre calc'ed second bounce?
Have You tried to do this? Did it work?
Yes indeed there's a difference. Imap saves 3D data and a jpg not. Look at your Imaps with the ImapViewer and you'll see.
good point... i didn't think about that!
yes i did try it, but only with a still image.
just wondered if there was any loss in detail from doing it like this (with stills)
that way if you'd rendered out a still using only ppt and saved a jpeg but wanted to render the image later and didn't save the vrlmap you could use the jpeg.
just a thought.

Another test. The basic farm scene is available at evermotion.org. I just added some trees to up the poly count and make VRay work a bit harder. I Also let VRay handle the DOF.
6 minutes ain't bad for this many poly's, GI and DOF! Far from perfect I know, but man this PPT simply flies on outdoor scenes. Interiors are another story!
1) Turn A/A off
2) Enable GI and set both primary and secondary bounces to light cache.
3) Primary bounces = 1.0, Secondary bounces = .75
4) Light cache settings:
Subdivisions = 7000
Sample size = 0.0
Mode = PPT
(everything else is at default)
5) VRay environment: Skylight (default color) and multiplier = .75
6) 1 direct light with Vray shadows for the sun. (orange/yellow color).
1.0 for the multiplier value.
Made a flyby animation of the scene above. Animated the trees and added some grass geometry. Not sure why some of the Onyx tree's are acting crazy. I'll need to check my wind settings.
