Here's a couple of animations I made last year to promote the brilliant weekly kids' comic, The Phoenix.
I had complete free reign to come up with what ever concepts I wanted, which was a lot of fun, although obviously there were elements the client needed (mainly the type) so that it wasn't just a random thing some idiot had made (hello!)
#1 Experiment
I used marvellous designer to simulate the cloth in this one, although some of the transitions had to be sculpted in ZBrush to make them look the way I wanted. The mouth came at the very last minute, so I think it could have done with a bit more work.
#2 The Kid
Accidentally came up with a concept that had a load of characters in - whoops! Animated the whole thing on stepped keys, pretty much frame by frame (mostly on twos - which helped!). I've got in the habit of doing this lately and I really like it. Obviously it means no motion blur and it can be a headache sometimes, but I like the almost stop motion look it gives. Plus it's really easy to chop and change things around.
I did the sound for both as well and I'm very aware that I lack a lot of skill in this department, but I plan to get better at it!
