Really good work! Huge project. The forum has been a bit quiet of late, so maybe people just need a bit of prompting.

Trees look great. They seem to hold up very well in the aerial shots. Are they just billboards/planes using tree images from the forest pro library? I'm working on a job at the moment that needs a LOT of trees in the backgound, and it's an aerial shot, so 3d trees would be ideal, but they would murder the render times. Forest Pro looks promising....

            Hi armilla
Are they just billboards/planes using tree images from the forest pro library?
Yes they are, we tried not to go to high with the camera.
we also rendered them in scanline and composite them later cause vray is to slow when it comes to opacity.
            thanks

Thanks Gili. I know you're after more feedback on you animation, but I have a few more questions regarding the trees if that's ok?

Was it Forest Pack Pro 2.0 that you used, and did you use the "Planes" object for the actual trees, or just the standard 2 plane object (cross shaped in plan)? Did you also use custom distribution maps, or place the trees manually? Are the trees set-up to follow the camera? And finally, was it a standard ray-traced direct light for the shadow casting, or did you use the X-Shadows that come with the plugin?

Apologies for so many questions, I'm just trying to figure out if it's worth the purchase, or whether I should try the free Lite version, which doesn't have features such as the "Planes" object, custom distribution maps, and X-Shadows.

              Many thanks in advance,

              Andrew.

                Hi Andrew
It was forest pro 1.5.somthing before the forest pro 2.0 arrived.
we did use plane wherever we needed trees in a specific location.
we did not use custom dist maps , you can play with the defaults settings.
all the forests are set up to look at camera.
                we used ray traced shadow.
i think that the free version dosn't have othe features as well but i don't remember what they were...
finaly i'd say its a good plugin and we use it in all of our productions.

Cheers Gili. Looks like it'll have to be the full Pro version then. Time to dust off the credit card.
