  • furniture designs - studio lighting

By no means these were hard to model, but I like the designs very much.
    Thanks

After I had completed the furniture, I had a go at making a nice studio lighting setup. Does anyone have ideas of how to make a really cool studio lighting setup? Maybe post a scene? This scene was made by placing 2 vray area lights behind a translucent vray material to simulate a dome tent which photographers use to photograph products.

it looks like a pretty good setup to me...
perhaps the furniture shots could do with being a bit brighter... some of them look a bit grey.

also, the AA looks a bit strange on the first image along the edges of the bench/stool.

        are these your designs?

they look ok, but my biggest issue with them is the lack of contrast between adjacent surfaces.

studio renders need to do a slick job of defining all of the elements of the product. Think about using the light to paint the image. The teapot looks ok, but reallly isnt a great indicator of the setup as its fairly easy to get a good result from a highly reflective simple object. once you throw in the wood textures for the other pieces, the lighting falls apart.

the overall amount of light looks ok, so i would suggest making your key light much more dominate in the setup...you should be getting some hightlight out of those wood pieces, even if they arent high gloss.

jack is right, there are some nice studio setups around, one by zubilan i think, which looks damn nice, but is quite slow.

          good work, keep going forward.

Hi there. Thanks for your replies. By the way, these furniture designs are not by me. I have had another go at a studio setup. I personally don't think it needs any more white cards but I may be wrong. I also only used 1 area light as the whole scene is enclosed in a room and gives enough bounced light around. What do you think? I guess i'm trying to make a generic studio setup to use for most applications. I guess every scene would be different like if I did a setup for a car rendering.

I also found this cool website for purchasing hdri's. There are some nice studio setups in there.
