for someone who freely admitted he couldn't create a piece of work of the quality of geddarts, your being awfully defensive. You stated your opinion, which your entitled, and others have responded with theirs, which they also are entitled to. relax...

Percy - I had been asked to be specific about my critique, which I have been. This is not 'defensive' as you put it, but merely making myself understood.

By the way, I am thoroughly relaxed, but thank you for checking.

This is a strange reaction. In what way has the animation been torn apart? Please explain.
Yeah I was referring to us tearing it apart earlier as I said.

Well, at least it shows that Geddart will not be hindered by a lack of technical skills and that he put a lot of effort in his application...

I don't understand the reactions about tricky's honoust comments.

What's the point in posting something and getting only reactions from people who like it very much?

I also had that "hu" feeling in the end and watched it a few times more, leaving me with the same questions as tricky about what's going on.

But the overall quality is very good, very professional, it's 'complete', especially given the fact that it's a project to get into a school. I think you have a good chance of getting in.

Yep, I agree technically it is very strong, nice effects, etc. But I also was a bit disappointed in it as a whole and had the same "huh?" feeling. I don't understand why the backlash...So if something is presented as a finish work it is all praise or nothing at all?

Ok, i just needed some days without the PC guys. Seems i have to dig into the discussion now eh?

Ok tricky, let's see. Thanks for comments first of all. All critique is important.
I hope you understood the thing right though. The first sequence is only happening in his imagination. I wanted to get this part bright and happy in colors, camera movement, and sound as it's his own gloryfication and flight from reality. The second scene was supposed to be a total contrast of that. His own cinema stopped and he finds himself in harsh reality for a moment. Colors, pacing and sound supports that. The original idea was to intertwine both worlds even further (the bull hitting the camera - he hitting something in reality...) but there was not much time to do it.
You said it lacks emotion while actually i tried to fill both pieces with very different emotions and feelings apropriate for the setting. Maybe you haven't got the core yet or we just have very different styles. I knew i had only four months for doing this film and i tried to find a good balance between quality and quantity. I needed a short and interesting Story with a punchline (reality fades away...) and room for the viewers interpretation. When i look back now i would change Animation. I would try to go much more extreme with the movements as you suggested. Especially in the second scene there's big room for improvement. (Punchline could be faster, snappier and with better facial animation) But i would'nt change the story.
                      Hope this helps a bit.

I think this answers some of you guys comments too right?
Thanks for all the critiques, comments and wishes. You know everything will be better next time.

PS: Here's a Layer Breakup and some Explanation on the second Location.

Who said it ever had to be funny? I think this is a matter of personal taste - I really enjoyed watching it from beginning to end and appreciated it for all the work involved.

Geddart - thanks for the response. It is the most valuable thing to take on criticism - it only leads to better work. You have done a marvellous job overall.
Flipside made the point that it is very 'complete' and I agree whole heartedly. The worst jobs are those that trail off towards the end, as the producer got bored or distracted halfway in.
jujubee - perhaps I didn't explain myself too clearly. I am not insisting that it be funny - just strongly emotive one way or another (It does have the feelings of a funny short though IMHO).

I think some of the best shorts are those by Pixar. For instance, the Snowman from years back. I still look back at those with my jaw wide open! Pixar always have a great base storyline. If you guys haven't seen it yet, take a look at this and let me know what you think:

The hands animation of the character in that movie has problems I think.
