You are too short and Italian for that kind of car. I see you in a Fiat 500!

Nice and sharp on a Lizard, but oh so clipped. I've never, ever had an unclipped dome from a professional photographer. They'll have a Phase one, one set tent, Lizard Q, 100k worth of gear, and come back with a dome that gives me soft blue shadows, and doesn't do anything to the paint flake.
It is exactly the same here: These guys think their Lizard is the hot cake...
But I'm okay with the output of that system because you can easily expand the dynamic range.
However, when you get a dome from a photographer who shoots the whole thing with his old leftover camera and a dirty lens on a manual panoramic head... So you see, things can be much worse!
Also, what I really love: Shoot the HDR dome half a kilometer down the road from where the actual car was shot.

I don't get why they are having so much trouble producing quality HDRIs. I have been doing it since the days of the chrome ball and HDRShop without any clipping. It is really not that hard to understand. You can see it in the photos in playback easily enough. I have had trouble getting good results from some people, even after walking photogs through it.

One of my favorites was when I said they could use a circular fisheye and point it straight up and that would work for a particular project. I sent them an example of a circular fisheye (black all around the outside-- the image is a circle). I made that very clear... What did I get back? Full frame fisheyes! Turns out I made it work just fine, but things do get lost in translation sometimes.

Positioning the camera correctly to capture the HDR as you mention is indeed very critical.

Obviously the HDRs you used for these shots worked quite well.

Only because we had the chance to take them ourselves.

Which is why I always require myself or another competent VFX Supervisor who I personally know to be on set. Or the price goes up quite a bit! (more than the cost of sending me out).
