  • Photorealistic toothbrush

This is my first project done with v-ray that I feel is good enough to show. It's being used as a background in a multimedia cd-rom we're creating. I'm pretty happy with it and have already had a few people mistake it for a photo. I know it's pretty simple but what do you all think?

If you want it to look clinical, it could use much more light or at least a feeling of it in the scene. Now it looks a bid smudgy. THe white plastic should be brighter. A small amount of SSS could do the trick maybe.

Thanks for the input, I will work on getting the shadows sharper. In the meantime what good is a toothbrush without teeth.

I got the shadows much sharper in this one, and I went with a bright back light so some of the translucency would show. Any thoughts? I'm also getting a strange highlight on the ground below the the one on the right. Anyone guess why?

              thanks.

"Glow" is 2nd bounce - reflecting from the white of the tooth. I think it looks good. If you increase the light overall (looks a bit dingy) - the whites could be whiter. Is this for video? Probably looks better (brighter) on screen.

I agree shadows are too blurry in both - and you have some sample issues under the left tooth.

Brissles too too stiff..... Some opacity, raytrace, or SSS if you have to would be good. Did you try vray fur for those? Add some bend?

Enamel looks great but the root looks odd to me. Maybe too rough? More translucency too. Are the root canals modeled?

                    Thanks for the comments.

meanadam; I agree the bristles are too uniform, I will have to get in there an tweak those. I didn't think about using hair for them, may be a good excuse to learn it.

trap: the roughness is pretty close according to all of the reference I have, but I do agree that i should up the translucency. And yes the root canals are modeled and there is a "root" object in the chamber to give it more color.

You know, now that I'm looking at it on a CRT not and LCD, the roughness looks better.
