Does VRay Displacement support 16 bit images.

Can you talk on MSN or whatever ?
    i'm on icq

vray supports 16bit, as does max,
i usually use png or tif files exported by a photoshop action (for example i record the save as png and map it to the f5 key)
that way i can work in ps in layers, add up detail and save a relatively small file

ps: just saw their pricing scheme, certainly better than the 800$ a year they had the last time i checked

      Amazing

Mike.Edel and I this afternoon Texas time solved the 16 bit displacement riddle. Max does have the abilty

1/ to capture 16 bit images of the Z buffer. Save it to PNG for best results

2/ the Abilty to use that 16 bit image to displace mesh which, Discreet absolutely said was impossible since it is supposed to only respond to 256 levels of grey.

3/ of course PS sees it as a 16 bit image and allows all manner of layering techniques to creat a single 16 bit height map.

Finally now,, I can use VRay Displacement and just use a proxy as was stated before to place my trees etc., upon.

YEEEHAAAA as they say here in Texas

A 2 year riddle finally solved. Thanks Mike for sticking with me till almost midnight Berlin time.

Accuracy at last in land sculpting within max and PS
Yes, but is it Art ???

sorry for late responce, your work looks great.

we are looking at purchasing the ecw plugin but are trying to work out how we will network render our animations if we have only 1 ecw plugin. its very expensive!

i know this imagery was done in january but do you have an example of a low level view?

        Thanks

I'd be very happy with that render coming out in 25 mins
