Hi I would greatly appreciate CC

Also the image took 16h plus to render at 1400x1050 res does that sound realistic?

I used irridiance for first bounce at medium setting and Light cache for second bounce.

Also I am really struggling with the metal material on the counter and blue box on the wall. Even placed a map in the reflection slot under Enviroment, but it still looks pretty dull.

    Thanx

16 hours is way too long. Are you using ies light? and if so, are they used in ALL those cans? At that res, I wouldn't wait longer then an hour for that image. Its all fairly large surfaces and not alot of detail, so I would post settings and see what can be done.

Ya I dont thinK I have ever waited longer than 4 hours for a rendering, at even at that those were pretty high in detail!
      Thanks

What size did you calc the IRR map and Lightcache at, full size?
The image in general is good but you suffer from a huge lack of light and contrast ..
Hope you dont mind but here is a quick PS edit, ive included the PS Action so you can see how it is made up.

in all fairness to him natty, this is obviously a render straight out of max and would appear he didn't even wait for it to finish?

I had thought about suggesting that it was too dark, but decided not to, since he hadn't really asked for crits yet on his image itself aside from the metal mat. His overall lighting appears pretty balanced so ya just a little work on photoshop will make it look snappy.

            Reception

            Hi Guys,

No problem with C/C, is the only way I will learn, if you have something to say and its constructive then go for it.

I will generate images of my settings and post tonight.

Yes all the lights are ies, except 3 VRaylights which we don't see.

The IRP map and Lightcache map was calculated at full sizes. (I have to check again but I thought at leats the Lightcache map has to be calculated at the required resolution or am I wrong)

As for the metal, do I need to post the material setting do get advise on how to improve.

Lastly I didn't stop the rendering short, those to buckest are actually mistakes by VRay. Do I e-mail my whole log file to Vlado or only a section?

            Thanx
            Geo

ies lights are very slow. especially if you use vray shadows. I would look at losing them except for a few that you really want to show off the light distribution. Also think about switching to shadow maps. That should make a huge difference in rendering time.

                Hi percydaman,

Thanx for the tips. At the time I was working on the image I did consider only using ies lights for those close to the wall. I didn't know how to work out at which intensity I should then set the normal lights so that the amount of illumination by them at least match the ies lights so they all look like the smae thing. So how would you approach this.

Also is there a setting that will always work well for shadowmap when using ies lights or would I have to play around and find a good setting for each scene?

                Ciao

                  Hi,

I'm working on a scene with lot of lights.. and i noticed differences between IES.. some of them seems to be more complex to calculate.

Better if u use IES only where really needed (as percy said ) . In other places u can put vraylights to simulate light distribution with really good results... and... of course... saving time.

About shadows, i generally prefer to use vrayshadows.

Using IES files is really possible to have such rendertime, but is strange because i don't see really complex materials in there... not so much glossy effects as well...

                  Regards,
