ID:	1147591 I've been testing the new 1meter Lidar scans from the USGS website, they are amazing with fine details that previously were not capture by the space shuttle SRTM missions, the masks were extracted in World Machine to be used in the Vray Blend shader.
More images can be found in my Artstation page.

Thank you, yes there are some artifacts that I have already removed, that one was from a particular mask, these are straight from the Frame buffer no photoshoping, the 4k renders help to spot areas for improvement.

Very nice, beats using Google Earth mess, too bad it's only Northern USA, I could use a European version.

Yes, I wish would be available for Europe and some other countries, I also looked for Australian Geological survey since I may be starting a terraforming Sci-Fi film shot there, would come in handy.
Beautiful works on your site Ashley, well done.

Very cool! I have been pulling 2D maps from them for my hikes. I'll take a peek at these photos.

Yeah that's a good idea, I've been there many times off roading with my FJ cruiser and you can find interesting features to visit from looking at these maps , specially in 3D.

Could you possibly provide some info on where to specifically download these LIDAR scans? The USGS site is kind of bewildering. Also any info on how you go about importing the data and using it in Max/Vray. I have had a lot of frustration trying to get LIDAR point clouds turned into usable meshes and etc. Thanks in advance for any direction you may be able to provide on this!

You have many trips in Monument Valley? I live about 4 hours away in western CO. We spend a lot of time in the canyon country.

I’m out of internet right now but will pull some info for you a bit later. There’s no point cloud data used here , just GeoTiff texture from the Lidar . More later.

Here's a simple Tutorial....once the files are downloaded you can photomerge them and adjust exposure.
The masks need to be extracted from a terrain software.
Yes I've been in many states off roading, specially ,Utah, Arizona, Nevada , New Mexico...the US desert is a breathtaking.

Thanks very much! All that is new to me but I will give a go as soon as time allows and see if I can generate something usable.

It sounds like we may share an interest and fascination with the canyon country and high desert. Here is a link to some small photo collections, 10-15 photos each, taken from remote areas around the Colorado plateau including Capitol Reef, Bears Ears, Canyonlands, Zion, Grand Staircase/Escalante, Grand Canyon and more.

Your work shown on the artstation link is very impressive, you are very accomplished!

                            Thanks again!
