  • Contemporary Mountain House

Another house in the mountain resort. For anyone who viewed the previous mountain house I recently posted, this is house is designed by the same architect. Very different style from the previous one. the architect likes the rendering very much, now waiting to hear back from his clients. Any and all critique is welcome as always.

Truly awful 'architecture' again, I'm sorry to say; though made somewhat less obvious, thankfully, by some nice gardening

It looks bit flat I think, though that is mostly the weird building doing that and the materials all being...just grey.
Not your fault though...if they like it then tick it off the list and move to the hopefully more inspired next one

Thanks for your review and comments, much appreciated as always. Yes pretty bland materials, seems to be a current trend.

This is a spec house, the client is the developer and his ex is the realtor. For pre construction marketing, a rendering of the other side of the house will also done. The other side is two levels and is a very large facade (they want to show how big it is) but not very glamorous. They have also said they will want some interiors. This all remains to be confirmed.

Your modeling needs some more work. For instance: the wood siding should be geometry, they might also would have these frames where the windows are. The white material of the house: I'm not sure what it is supposed to be but it's very low res, also the corners are too sharp, try putting a vrayedgestex in the bump.

I'd try some more interesting lighting options, some more low sun, cloudy, mood lights inside / outside. Some aerial perspective or so to pull away the background from your house, and make it stand out more from its environment. Make your sky more interesting, try different options. Careful with very bright colors like your reds, these stand out a lot and take away attention from your subject.

Thanks for your comments Vizioen, all good and helpful to consider. So the modeling is by others - it's a revit model I imported. Still I could replace parts of it per your suggestion. I'm not 100% usre about the frames at the windows? If you are suggesting there would be some trim framing around the windows, that is an architectural decision and out of my hands. I think they are purposely keeping it as "clean" (sterile?) as possible for the contemporary look.

The white material is a ashlar white stone, narrow strips. the material is from Poliigon and it's high res. Maybe the fact that I down sized the image to 1600 px for purposes of posting here makes it look lo-res, not sure.

Good suggestion about using aerial perspective to make the house stand out more. I may experiment with that to see what it looks like. I have been very reluctant to have an clouds or atmosphere obscuring the mountains in any way. Showing the mountains that will be seen form the house isat least as important as the showing the house is to clients. A big part of what they are selling is that view.

100% agree about trying more interesting lighting. The problem is that I would need to shoot multiple background images at different times with a good sky. So unfortunately that's quite a time sink for experimenting. If I show the other side I think it will be a dusk shot with the inside lit up, simulated sky and trees as a background so no photo backplate needed.

100% agree about the red flowers also. wish I did not have them in there.

thanks again for your thoughtful and valuable comments. The renderings on your website are fantastic!

Some updates and a view of the other side of the house.

Updates are a different stone, lighter gray siding and got rid of the red flowers. They did not want trim around the windows.

The house is on a steep slope with a pretty dense aspen/spruce forest. Impossible to photograph and the site has not yet been cleared of trees for construction. The realtor and developer (client) are a team and they were directly involved in specifying view angles.

All critique and comments are welcome as always.
