Software: 3DsMax, VRay 6 GPU (Pic 1) + Chaos Vantage (Pic 2, without denoiser)

Rendered half year ago, I forgot the rendering time, the first one is about 1 hour, the second one is about 10~15 minutes without denoiser.

Pretty! I amnot sure the DOF is working for me. I like seeing it when something is close to the camera.

I know that the real estate folks turn on every light in the house, but for me and renderings, I love the natural lighting.

Definitely keep the lovely natural light you achieved as is.Turn on the other lights for some accent sparkle?

Very nice colors and atmosphere. Based on the shadows under chairs I think you turn on ceiling spotlights. I am struggling with balancing interior and exterior light balance. Once I've setup my interior camera, everything outside is overxposed. I use hable tonemapping in vantage with its default values. I would be really happy if you can tell me your light setup. Thanks in advance

Given the white stucco wall by the barbeque I'm suspecting the interior cans are providing more lights than it appears in combination with some hidden lights.

Nicinus I think the same about interior lights and wondering about its intensity. Also it will be very helpful if and where it has hidden lights e.g. rectangle light a terrace doors or so. I make interior design and looking for setup where I can make decent renders from different angles, so using technique with for example hidden rectangle light behind camera doesn't work very well for me. Still learning from wiser.

What I have done to adjust the objects that are outside and over exposed. Use vray cryptomatte render element. Set it to material node usually works best for me but set to object mode can also work. Then add an exposure adjustment layer in the vray frame buffer. From the exposure adjust layer use the cryptomatte mask and pick the white stucco wall. Turn down the exposure for it. Hope this may help.

Love the lighting. How have you achieved that? VRay Sun? HDRI?

Thanks. I used a VRay Dome (color=6500K, Intensity=1) and a VRay Sun (Intensity=0.02, 5500K). The indoor IES lights are just for decoration and have little effect.

Nice rendering. My understanding of how to use vray sun/sky with vray dome light is different than what you have. I think the “best practice “ intended setup is. First create vray sun. Accept yes to add vray sky into max environment slot. Creat vray dome light. Instance the vray sky from max environment slot into material editor and then instance that vray sky into the dome light map slot. Do not adjust color or intensity of dome light or the vray sky. Leave sun multiplier at 1.0.

You can adjust the color/filter and the size of sun.

Changing angle of sun changes color of vray sky in the dome light. They are linked. Late day low sun angle produces a warmer sky color. Use the vray camera white balance to adjust the warm or cool of the overall.

That’s my understanding, someone else with more expertise can correct this or elaborate if my explanation is off.

OPEN_RANGE Yes I used this same setup but I have problems with sun intensity, especially for interiors. I test different setup with same principle (Vray sky and sun in dome light) but with sun intensity lowered to 0.03 and dome multiplier to 6. This gave me higher sky illumination and lower sun intensity. This is the result jpg straight from Vantage with some post edge sharpen.

Your workflow is correct, and I used to follow the same approach for setting up lighting. However, I found that it took me too much time each time to achieve a satisfactory result with accurate color balance, avoiding overexposure, and achieving a bright indoor effect.
In fact, my idea is quite simple: I use GPU rendering, and GPU memory is valuable to me, so I use VRay Dome instead of HDRI. When testing lighting, I prefer a soft, cloudy effect, so I always set the VRay Dome to 6500k with an intensity of 1. Finally, I use a VRay Sun to cast tree shadows and make the scene less dull.

My indoor downlights contribute only a small amount of light, creating the effect of illumination on the walls. In fact, if I turn them off, it wouldn't have a significant impact on the scene. Usually, I only use a pure white VRay Dome, and that's all. Sometimes, I add a very weak VRay Sun to generate tree shadows and reate a warm atmosphere.
