Here is a project for a client who did not have any plans. This is to be built for his daughter on an Eastern US horse country property. It's a big acreage of grass field surrounded by dense hardwood forest lines. He initially had a floor plan sketch and front elevation that he did on an airplane flight. Th he provided some images that his daughter found that she liked. All this was sent to me via text message and so much of it was about 300px in the large dimension.

You can see that I essentially did what was wanted but there was a lot of guidance and explaining needed on my part. Some of the ideas put forward to flesh this out were....not good. Unimportant issues were regarded as major stumbling blocks. It tool a lot of discussion and illustration to bring it around. AKA - time sink.

In the end the client is very happy with his creation. Hopefully his daughter will be too.

You did an excellent job, especially what you had to work with. I would have run the other way on a project like this. Make him sign off something not making you liable for any design flaws.

Thank you Bobby. There are still things about the design I don't agree with, but it's his rendering so there it is.

Of course there is more to the story with this client and he is someone I have known causally for many years. Difficult to deal with but not at all rude or dis respectful. Believes he knows a lot about design and construction, doesn't believe he needs an architect, very concerned about cost despite being very well off. Kind of shotgun style impulsive without considering details or domino type affects.<end of client psych evaluation>. Fortunately we remain on very good terms and he is quite happy with the renderings.

Utterly weird...none of this this works for me I'm afraid, though kudos for getting paid for essentially a 'vanity piece'.

Some people have very little ability to self-reflect. His trying, and succeeding to get you to lower your price should have been a red flag. Working an extra day for free, other than helping a friend, isn't right. However, if he is a wealthy person, and he took you for money, he probably isn't a friend. I read something the other day where some wealthy woman made her maid pay $400 for a towel that the main ruined. People were outraged, rightfully so, but my point was that is how she got wealthy. What is the saying? find me a wealthy person and I will have found you a crook!

Great Job.
I have had the same situation for years. Hence I called my company Sketchrender Ltd. I had one client how would give me plan sections elevations all drawn over each other. A complete genius of man, but cad was not his thing.

I think you can boost the exterior a little from the interior. I don't mind blown-out windows since it is reality. It looks flat to me even for photographers who expose twice and blend.

He's definitely going about the process backwards, but you brought his sketches to life, great job! Working out design / structure in Max though... no thanks

it feels all a bit over saturated, especially outside, definately expose the outdoors too, like Bobby mentioned, having the outside darker than the sunbeams inside doesnt make sense. Also visually I feel the floor is casting too much colour onto the ceilings, maybe add an override material with a white GI mat, to the floor. The fireplace flames look strange and the rug looks like its hovering. (ive done that countless times)

thanks for your comments! I had desaturated the image a bit in post, could have done with a bit more. I was aware of the floor casting that color but did not know of the tip re overide material . I will definitely give that a try going forward.
