  • Log House Remodel

This log house was built in the early 1980's. It would not be allowed to built in this location today. The owner is contemplating some fairly major work on it. The architect had me do this exterior to show the owner how the changes may look.

I included the before photo (that I took). Plus two photos that the architect took that show the existing structure better

The rendering is not an "exact" match to the photo. That's mostly due to the plans I used to model from being a bit off from what is existing. They had to measure the existing house and I think they also used some older plans by a different architect who had also field measured. Mainly the side elevation drawing did not match up with the floor plan in a number of ways. It was about 1.5' wider than the floor plan and had other discrepancies. I was told the floor plans were more accurate but...not sure that's true either.

The architect asked that I change the color of the logs, they are planning to treat them with some stain or something.

Anyway, it serves the purpose of letting the owner see what is planned and the architect is happy with this.

Looks great and it's well matched. The perspective is a little off but I wouldn't have noticed if you hadn't included the original

Thank you Bart. I fiddled with the perspective match and could not seem to get it closer.

I used the same focal length and aspect ratio as the photo. I did a bit of a survey of my camera position so position of camera is reasonably close. Moving the camera and target in small amounts from there to adjust perspective I could not get a better match.

If I got the roofs to match and the left to appear in the correct position, then the right side looked off. If I got the roofs to match and the right side to appear correct then the left was off.

It may be that the new model has enough discrepancies from what’s actually built that a perfect match was not possible. It may be that I don’t have the camera or target position quite right.

In this case it really doesn't matter at all, as there is nothing around to conflict with it

Thanks you both! Somehow I never got notice of your replies and just seeing them now. I gave my best effort (as always) but feel that in some ways I "got lucky" with this one.

              Thanks again!
