the lighting is a little bland. you need some accent lights or something. other than that its a good render.

Thanks Da_elf, for the comments, Currently i have 2 vray lights one in the ceiling and the other in the far window, I will turn up the intensity of the lights a bit. I do not have the lighting layout as yet, but i will provide progress update.
I just went to your website, and sent you an email

i hate when doing interiors and the client tells us to just "throw in the lights" sheesh. lighting is actually a science/artform and there are pro's for that. its not something im a pro at so its tought trying to think where lights would look best
ive got the manual on lighting that used to be on erco's site. very informative and has gotten me to where i am now

nice start although I think you are right, increase the light mutlipliers as this will help add a bit more contrast between the light and dark areas.

I think your creme wall render looks a bit flat and oversaturated so a bit more work on materials will pay off well. Also throwing in some decent objects will help a lot

You could improve this image straight away though with a small amount of post work...increase brightness and contrast and desaturate a small amount. once you have more contrast in your lights by brightening them up you can further accentuate this by making a copy of your layer, turning the curves down on this layer so only bright areas show, running a slight blur over this layer and then use screen in layer combination over the original image. Your white surfaces should look almost white with a hint of the wall colour where at the moment the colour bleed is too prominant. Id also render it out a lot bigger. hope that helps!

              nice image.
But i agree the lighting aint quite right.

But at the same time it is a library, home of the bland lighting so it probabaly wouldnt look to out of place.

I added two more lights, to brighten the sean a bit, I also played with the wood material by adding a little more gloss to it, but i think it is too much. I know all the materials will change, but i a experimenting for now, knowing that this is my first time doing a vray interior.

its brighter but its still going to need accent down lighting to make it pretty now

Did they give you a light plan for the room? Generally, it's best to place several smaller lights rather than one or two large lights in an interior. Large lights don't give the accents that Da_elf is talking about and shadows are all in one direction and wrong due to the size of the light.

Thats what your room looks like to me, the light sources are to big. Place your lights where they will be in real life and size them correctly and the image will come to life!

Again thanks for the comments, I will make the lights smaller and re-render.

I am the project architect on this library, We just about to finish the schemitic design. All we have for now is the plans and the exterior elevations. I jumped the gun by modeling the whole building, (including the interior) I had no experence creating an interior sean in vray, so i wanted to get some before we stated doing interior elevations and material studies.

basically looking at this your going ot want to have your large lights at doorways and windows to simulate environment light then have a direct light outside to simulate incomming sunlight htrough a window. then your going to want to have recessed downlights in the roof usually over points of interest like the checkout desk and inbetween the isles to light the books. usually those are softer lights however since bright light isnt good for book especially if its really old books. then you might want to think of artistic lights in places like at the bottom of the column or at the tops with maybe an ies light to give it a nice light pattern or something

Da_elf, I removed the large overhead lights, and replaced them with 2x2 lights, and i notice a major difference in the shadow pattern on the floor, I now will increase the intensity of the lights.
