8mins, seems rather good. I take it that wasnt on a single machine?
How many machines and of what type? DR?

Maybe also try placing a few flowers ..etc.. in the grass to break it up even more.. maybe some white pansies or daisys or something similar.
Actually maybe that would look crap... ahh well cant hurt to try

            Hi daforce

it was 8 mins pure render time - the irr map had already been calculated

            m/c wise: p4 3.4ghz 2gb ram.

we ran the animation that the still was taken from on 15 similar machines

            Cheers

Ah ok so that was 8mins on a single machine?
That seems quite good for the quality you have achieved.
Any idea how long the IR map took?

that particular run was 417 frames.

The irr map was set medium animation and took about 4-6 hours set to every 10th frame (this is a best guess da force as the map was calculated overnight)

hey i was just looking at those settings and realised you used lightcache for the exteriors.

I've tried that in the past and always thought the result was lacking contrast. It seems to put a nice bright wash over everything but you loose the shadows a bit giving the images a bit of a plasticy model feel to them. So i use irradiance+ QMC still for exteriors, and LC with irradiance for interiors.

Has anyone else noticed this or have any comments on this? possibly the LC method gives the closest to reality in terms of results..?
