Great stuff. Excellent job on the modelling, though I'm not so keen on the lighting - there seems to be a lot of blow out on the specular highlights, which I would imagine to be much finer on car paint. The part wireframe view is very effective, reminiscent of the old Haynes manual diagrams you used to get.
you should use fresnel reflections and an hdri for reflections or some well placed vray arealights.
this would make it much less plastic

If i'm not mistaken, it looks as if he is already using hdri for reflection, and the specific hotspot in that hdri is giving it the plastic look. Maybe using a different hdr image would help?

I did use hdri for reflection, but I'll try using a different hdr image... I agree, it looks a bit plastic
