Great images! I'm curious about the spots.....what light are you using? Are they standard lights or IES? Spot or omni inside the fixture controlling the shadow? Vray shadows?
IES lights, free points i think, with web distribution and the using the sample file point_recessed_wallwash_75w.ies which comes with Max 8. Vray Shadows, but not area shadows. (if i remember correctly)

perfect light. Did you use exponential color mapping? Sky or vray lights on the windows?

      bye

Gamma Correction Colour mapping on 1, 0.455. No Vray lights, instead used the Environment Override with a HDR in the slot, multiplier on 1. No other lights in the scene, apart from the ies in the kitchen, and a max direct light outside for the sun, multiplier on about 3.

1.47.03 - can't wait for the next point releases so i can see how the VraySky / VraySun system can light a scene. This should be even more realistic and easy to use lighting, i'm sure there are loads of us who want to have a butchers at it....

I didn´t know it was possible to light a scene using a HDR image in the environment....amazing! Maybe it was hard prior the linear workflow arrival Can i ask which hdr image you used?

you clould use hdris for that for a long time

but in my experience it tends to be very noisy (due to the extreme brightness contrast levels found in most hdris), unless you use a blurred version of the hdri to light the scene

i usually prefer to use gradients/flat colored skies or hand painted maps (16bit files from combustion f.e.)

                    pretty nice renders!!

Although the 2nd last one, man you would get some serious reflections on your screens there... not to mention the crazy sunburn on your arms. And that room would get stinking hot in summer. (need uber A/C)

Not in England! We wish, but we don't have the climate of Australia, amply prooven recently when an Australian company said they could build Wembley stadium in time for the FA Cup final, but little did they know of british weather conditions and now the Final is having to be played in Wales.

But I agree about the glare on the screens, and thanks for your kind comments.
